The control handle on your pull down faucet tilts back how far?

I'm so excited our kitchen is finally getting done, but now a million decisions need to be made. Here's one:

DW and I are very much looking forward to a single handle pull down faucet, but we also want a very big sink. We don't want to risk the control handle hitting the backsplash (or coming close).

From among the many models out there, we want to be able to choose one with a single handle control lever that doesn't tip back very far, preferably no further than straight up and down or so.

Those of you who have a handle that doesn't tip back farther than about straight up and down, can you tell us what model you have? And if you have one that does tip way back, what model is it so we'll know...lovely as it may be...it probably won't suit our situation.

I have selected the Newport Brass 99P all brushed stainless pull down faucet. It is shown with the control on the right side but it can be installed with it at the front. Having been concerned about the same issue as you, the consultant and District rep showed me how it looks installed, and I was pleased about how really great it looks and how well the control functions with either one's right or left hand. The faucet arm does not at all block access to the control handle in use. I am pleased with the all-metal finsh parts and that it is locally made in USA as well.

They usually have that info on the spec sheet diagrams.

Anyway I have a Hansgrohe Allegro Gourmet and the handle doesn't do much of anything--it's an itty bitty thing on the side. Grohe also makes some with side handles that can even be mounted on the front if needed.

(If you're getting the biggest sink out there, keep in mind that faucet reach can be an issue, especially for the short-armed people--I chose this one because I needed a longer reach and it was the only pulldown I could find with a long reach.)

Do you have a friend who has a pull-down that you might be able to try? Will that sprayer stay on spray or do you have to keep the handle pressed down? I always had a side spray before but now that I have a pull-down I don't ever want to be without one! I defrosted some shrimp tonight and it was so nice to be able to pull the faucet head down close to my colander, set it to spray and walk away for a few minutes. The pull-down is nicely balanced so that it stays at whatever height I put it. It's so much more convenient to quickly pull it down and be able to reach every corner of my sink when I wash it. Mine goes back up into place very easily and securely, no twisting or fiddling with it required.

Love, love, love my Ikea pulldown. No problems with retraction at all. If you search this forum (using the bottom search box) you'll see this debate comes up in here all the time, with your reason being one of hte primary cited. HOWEVER (and this is important), that's almost always people who haven't used one and only seen them in showrooms where the counterweights haven't been installed! A pulldown has a chunky weight attached to the hose under the sink, and that's what keeps it in place - totally adjustable, too. Also, there are a few pulldowns with "docking" devices - ie the twistlock Delta Leland and Victorian, and the magnetic Delta Allora. I'm a total convert to pulldowns after years of a sidesprayer. Even though it took a LOT of persuasion to get me to try one, I can't imagine having anything else now - I LOVE it. I have an Ikea Elverdam, btw - simple, but efficient and it didn't break the bank. rmlanza: I don't think your kitchen could be more perfect! Give me warm and homey over fancy any day. I'm not usually a fan of red but it looks so good! Your slate is much darker than the slate we're using but you're right, you do have a lot of light in your kitchen, lucky!Which granite did you install? Can I talk you into posting a better pic of your backsplash? My DD thinks we should use smaller mosiac sized tiles but all the tile people are saying the larger tiles will help to make the room look larger. I'm still undecided (as usual). The pigs are adorable, what a great idea for the towels but how sad you decided to separate them! LOL. Here's the tile we're going to install for our backsplash courtesy of Patti823, she has the same tile!

Of course, everyone uses their faucets differently, but I'm glad my delta doesn't retract automatically. As I'd mentioned in another thread, I pull out my faucet and fill large stockpots, resting the head on the edge of the pot - using it as a pot filler. It frees up my hands to do something else. I also find that if I pull out the hose and wash out pots or whatever else needs to be washed, I get less splashing if the head is lower in the sink. I'd hate to fight against an automatic retraction feature. When I'm done, I just use my hand to push the faucet head back towards its dock where the magnet attracts it the last inch or so. Helene

The Kohler VinnataÂ® also has a handle that can be installed on the right, left, or in front of the faucet.

I realize that some (many?) handles are mountable in front of the faucet. I thought I liked it better on the right since we usually reach for the control with our right hand, but then if it tips too far all the spacing has to be just right and I don't want to have to rely on granite fabricator and plumber to be perfect and get it just right. I have tried looking at the specification drawings, but found them to be ambiguous in many cases...it was frustrating. I hoped I could get some suggested models here to check out.
