Painted Wall cabs with Wood Base cabs: pics needed

I'm new here and have enjoyed lurking and learning. We are planning for a major home renovation on our recently purchased 15 year old home.

The kitchen has cabinets with solid cherry doors in a fairly glossy finish. The 'boxes' of the cabinets themselves are low-end but the exterior looks okay.

In the interest of budget-savings, I am considering having only the wall cabinets replaced. The current ones are 30" tall and don't take advantage of all of the storage that could be available. We have 8' ceilings.

I would like to use ivory-with-glaze uppers and am looking for pictures of kitchens with this set-up. Would that look too 'stripey'? Has anyone else done a similar reno: using some existing cabinets but adding in a different finish?

Also, (newbie question here) how do you find the Finished Kitchen Blog that I see others refer to?

Thanks in advance! I love all of the ideas that you guys come up with!
