Drop in single bowl sink for 30' IKEA cabinet?

We just bought a fixer upper and the overhaul kitchen remodel won't be for a few years- but to make it more functional and add a dishwasher/ we're replacing the base cabinets (only 4) and using IKEA butcherblock countertops.

To avoid the maintenance that would be required with an undermount (on the butcherblock endgrain). We've decided to go with a drop in/ top mount sink.

My last house/ kitchen remodel I loved the Kindred 1930 as it did slide into the 30" cabinet and was nice and big I'm looking for something similar in a drop-in/ top mount and so far have come up short.

Any suggestions?

If you do a search at ikeafans you'll find several solutions. Of course, most people just notch out the cabinet sides, but even if you don't want to do that you'll find info there on sinks that will fit.

The two most active posters there at the moment are double bowl sink fans--always pushing what they call the "daughter sink", but if you read the "Is this sink too big thread" there are some suggestions for single bowl sinks, too.

Thank you for the Swanstone tip and link, jkom. I took a look; it's amazing how many colors they have. At the moment - especially after a recent post on Silgranite and soapstone, which is close to the Basalt Slate - I'm leaning strongly toward the Silgranite. Hopefully I can mount the faucet into the counter in the center, behind the sink, rather than in the pre-drilled hole that comes with the sink. I'm betting I could find a plug or something for that hole (don't care to put a soap dispenser there).

We planning to use this 24" wide ikea sink cabinet: AKURUM Base cb f sink w 2 drs/fascia panel, white, HÃÂ¤rlig white http://www.ikea.com/ca/en/catalog/products/S29867294/ with this sink: Ruvati RVM4130 Undermount 16 Gauge 25" Kitchen Sink Single Bowl http://www.ruvati.com/product-p/rvm4130.htm bought from efaucets.com Although the sink looks too large, the inside dimensions of the cabinet are 22.5" wide, and the dimensions of the sink bowl are 22 13/16" wide (CAD drawing measurements). So as you can see, it will only require minor shaving to fit the bowl in the cabinet, and some notching of the top side edges of the cabinet to fit the sink flanges. We will be using a sink setter to mount the sink to the underside of the granite counters, rather than standard brackets. We haven't installed the sink yet, but "hacking" cabinets to fit sinks of commonly done. For most undermount sinks, esp. stainless steel types, there is about a 1" lip around the sink to secure it to the countertop. You really need about an inch between the edge of the lip and the cabinet for the clips to be mounted. For a 30" base cab, I'd say the largest practical size sink would be about 26" total width,(+/- 24" inside) and even that may require a little trimming. Also play close attention to front to back depth to insure you have enough room for the faucet and 3"-4" of counter in front of the sink, depending on the installer and the countertop material. I have a 34" base cabinet, did a search and found a 30" x 18" outside (28"x16" inside) rectangular single bowl from an ebay seller called afaucet. The sink has arrived and looks to be of good quality 15 guage, rear drain like Blanco with drain grooves. You might check out that option, too.

I felt like the extra 3" made a marked visual impact. When I meaured the 30" one, the inside seemed smaller than that and when I measured the 33" insides, it felt so much roomier. I say bigger! We are going with a SS 33"

We used a small drop in sink in one half of a 48" bar cabinet (from IKEA) in the basement. It was their FYNDIG style-it is very cheap and probably not sturdy enough for regular use but for a wet bar it does fine. Their DOMSJO sinks are supposed to be good.

Thanks writersblock- I will check out Ikeafans.com (used them in the past but forgot to check there this time!)

And vinudev_liny - I don't think I want to use an IKEA sink- but need a different stainless sink that will fit into their cabinet.. thanks!

We set a sink into a 30" cabinet. Can't imagine why anyone wouldn't want to notch out the sides. :) That's what we did to slide in a wonderful deep wide single sink, and we love it.
