What do you do to protect wood floors from dog water bowls, etc.?
Comments (11)Hi. The occasional water spill is not a problem with hardwood floors. Remember that wood floors have been used for hundreds of years in all types of climates, most notably the harsh Northern and Midwestern winters; snow & sleet not withstanding. Take normal precautions you'd take with your carpets. Clean up spills as soon as possible. Do not allow standing water, etc. For your dog bowls, a nice rug under the bowls will prevent them from slipping and scratching the floor, as well as help absorb the occasional sloshing. As for snow, the salt, sand, and other abrasives tracked in are of more concern than the water. I would definitely have a really good rubber mat or something to protect the floor at the entrances, more to protect the finish that the wood it self. If the design allows, it might be good to leave a "foyer" of tile or marmoleum to allow for wet boots, etc. And if mom or the girls favor high heels, leave them there too. High heel shoes is one of a wood floors worst enemies. Those little devils and really mark up all but the hardest woods. If your other kid is a large dog, keep those nails trimmed. Otherwise, wood is pretty carefree. Have fun!...See Moreheavy bar stools+new wood floors=anxiety
Comments (6)After refinishing our floor I had the same thought (particularly after paying the bill for the refinishing), I don't want to have to do this again any time soon... I bought the Slip Stick "sliders" for my barstools, they replace the original nylon pads and screw in (but also have adhesive) so they will stay put. You didn't ask about this, but just as a general FYI, Slip Stick also offers "Grippers" which I put on my sofa and chairs which sit on the wood floors as well, and OHMYGOSH, if only I'd found these before. For years my stuff has slid every time someone sat down on it, even when I had the front feet on rugs --- now everything stays right where I put it. Love this slip stick stuff. I was able to find it at Rocker as well as a local True Value store. I think I even was able to pick it up via Amazon (can you tell I've gone gaga over this stuff???). I never had much luck with felt staying on, have tried the felt bottom cups and gripper cup things from Home Depot and they mostly stayed put while my furniture jumped out of them, I got pretty tired of wrenching my back trying to lift them back into the cups so I gave up. Good luck. Kris...See MoreDo you own this stool? If not, what do you think?
Comments (10)I posted this stool photo as a suggestion for remodel-mama a few weeks ago. As far as I know, no one owns it here. I love it! (Obviously.) Just the right combination of comfy/contemporary/industrial/vintage. Versatile. Cool. On top of everything else, a good price! Seems like it is worth waiting for, but you have to stop looking if you order them. I have two sets of stools, and still don't have the ones I originally loved, because they were on backorder for so long and I gave up waiting. Shoulda kept waiting....See MoreWhere did you get your bar stools? Looking for sources!
Comments (14)I have been looking and looking online. I wanted something cheap as I've already exhausted my budget. I tried out the ones at Ikea and they were lacking in quality. We went to a local store to just try out different ones and ended up ordering from them. It was more than I wanted to spend, but they are such great quality that I couldn't resist. I'm happy with our choice. We got to choose the finish and fabric and they are really sturdy and comfortable and even LOOK better quality than the cheap ones I was looking at online. We are lucky to have this store that all they sell is chairs and barstools, but I guess what I'm saying is to go out and try some. My husband wanted no back, I wanted a back and no swivel because I was afraid of the back banging into the counter. We ended up with a padded back with a swivel....See Morebrightm
