I want to add to my original post that I visited an appliance store today where a salesman told me that they don't carry Electrolux at all because "it takes two months to get spare parts" when a repair is needed. That's giving me second thoughts about my appliance choices, even though I take everything salespeople say with a grain of salt. Has anybody had problems getting their Electrolux appliances repaired?

charlyinfl, Thanks so much for the suggestion. I was excited when I read your post and could hardly wait till this morning for my (engineer) husband to test the oven. If the bake coil wasn't working it would explain everything. Alas....it's working fine. At least it's heating up as expected. I called KitchenAid for service tho, because the bread dough proofing function doesn't work at all...the oven doesn't get the least bit warm...and I'm hoping that the serviceperson will have some ideas about the other problem too. (Kitchenaid says it's normal for the broil element to come on while baking, and didn't offer to have someone look at it.) This must be my bad day tho...Kitchaid aid phone customer service say "offices temporarily closed"...and their online scheduling service is also not working. But I'll persevere with this, especially since you say yours works fine. I sure hope it's fixable. Did I mention that my big Christmas turkey was all brown and dried out on top in just 1 1/2 hours, at 325 degrees, with the roast-pan cover on! If I can't get this resolved I think I'm going to bite the bullet, pay for a new oven and the cost of building it in, and get back to normal in my kitchen. Thanks again for trying to be helpful. Now that is scary. My experience with Electrolux. The first oven I got in 08 was chpping enamel in shards and they replaced it. At a little over 4 years the second oven had the enamal degrade in what looked like linear scratches. I called them first to see what they would say and they were not helpful. They would not tell me if the oven liner could be replaced and wanted me to pay for a service call to find out. I did call my extended warranty and I had to pay out of pocket and they reimbursed me. That exclusion in the extended warranty speaks volumes to me. Repair bill was a little over $500 total if I remember. I received a fixed estimate. The oven in my Wolf range would cost part plus $800 to start with no cap on labor just for comparison for the same issue. I also had blue enamel that was bad on a Dacor oven and range. We have an Electrolux Icon single wall oven. We are remodeling our kitchen now, but did have it hooked up for several months before we tore the kitchen out. We did a Thanksgiving with it, as well as quite a bit of baking after that. Ran the Self Clean cycle with no problems too. Everything went perfectly. I loved the probe thermometer for baking the turkey! The preheat seemed fine, and "rapid" preheat gets things up to temperature quickly. If I were buying another oven today, I would want this same one. Call the manufacturer. If service can not figure out how to fix it, shame on them. Demand it be repaired immediately or replaced.
