black (or very dark) granite as a backsplash?

Hi all,

Is there anyone who could please post a picture of a black or very dark granite installed as a backsplash all the way up to the upper cabinets?

I've become so obsessed with backsplash decision-making that my husband said last night, "Why don't we simply run the counter top granite right up the wall?"

Pros:

- easy to clean... no grout

- unified look

- installed for us

- decision-making stress freed up for other things

- might have a nice glow with under-cab lights on

Cons:

- too dark? (but, getting glossy finish; won't it be light-reflective?)

- too heavy?... weight wise

- too much of the same thing?

Setting:

The granite we chose is called Brown Suede. It is almost black, with some murky shades of brown to pick up the natural cherry cabs & the odd blur of quartz to pick up the stainless appliances... fairly plain as far as movement goes. Our house is quite old (1854). We've chosen a shaker style cab with inset doors/drawers to maintain the integrity of the time, but want some splashes of modernity.

So... any thoughts on that backsplash??? Please share your honest opinions. I'm really, really, really hoping one of you has a picture to share of cherry cupboards (or any medium coloured wood for an idea) with a black/dark continuous counter/backsplash up to the bottom of the uppers.

Thanks in advance, everyone! This site is an absolute godsend!
