We had white delicatus installed and some chipping was normal. Because of the different materials that are present in delicatus, there was some expectation of chipping. My fabricator filled all of the spots that weren't smooth. Some blended away and now I can't find them. One is visible but much less than it would have been if it wasn't filled on the edge of my island. The crack might be a fissure, also common with our stone. Can you post some pics? These are definitely fixable if you can get ahold of your fabricator.

Also - Close in inspection of the work should be done at the time of completion (I KNOW you prolly did NOT want to hear that) - but whenever you get something - you should really inspect it all at the time of receipt - not 30, 60 or 90 days later - Brian has some really valid points, but every effort should be made by the consumer to make sure that they are happy with the product at the time of completion - it's kind of like getting a brand new set of tires on your car, and then coming in after a month because the front tires are wearing unevenly (never mind that the front end on the car needs alignment) = does this make sense?

Remember too - that this is natural stone, and that some of what you are seeing is a natural thing that occurs in some species of granites - your fabricator has a duty to inform you of these qualities at the time that you are making your buying decision - not now....... so IF this is something that is in the "this is normal for this species of stone" - he should have told you. Because there is always two sides to the story, and IF he DID tell you - you should have been listening, or he should have made sure thatyou understood this........ Again - I am SURE that what I just said is NOT what you wanted to hear too - and maybe it does not apply to your situation (I do not know) - BUT, I get called in to work as a third party mediator on situations just like this ALL THE TIME, and the "communication" issue (or lack thereof between the fabricator and the customer) is a common thread in the equation. If some of these :knuckleheads that call themselves "Fabricators" would take the time to EDUCATE their customers BEFORE THE WORK STARTS - I'd have a LOT LESS of these "pissing matches" to attend wearing my striped referee's shirt !!! LOL

Maybe you were not able to see everything right away, and that's understandable. Maybe the house was a spec, and the work was done months before you moved in - this could be the case too...

What fries me on situations like this, is that people have to understand that granite fabricators are not Walmart - you cant expect them to keep coming back every time you see a new scratch or chip - Speaking purely from my own experiences over the last 26/27 years doing granite slab countertops - we QC (Quality Control) ALL of our work, and inspect BEFORE the customer can - we catch a lot of stuff and correct it - BEFORE it goes out the door - this greatly reduces the amount of calls we get like the one you have... because we took the time to go over everything and makes sure that we are delivering MB Quality product - "Das Beste Order Nicht" (the best or nothing!)

Thank you for the feedback. I know some chipping is expected but I'm talking chips along the edge larger than the diameter of a dime. I'll post pictures later since I'm at work now. What upsets me is the fabricator not calling me back. At least acknowledge that fact that I'm calling and if it's normal for the stone just let me know. At the time of install he did go over with me the characteristics of the stone but mentioned nothing about the chips. I actually caught a few and he was able to fix them.

Could the fabricator possibly be on vacation?

Who was your fabricator - Ray Charles or Stevie Wonder ???? (sorry... had to throw that in there...) LOL ;-)

The good news is - is that what you have is most likely fixable, but you really need to post some pics so we can see what you see.......

I couldn't get a great shot of the really large chip since it has quartz all around it and it doesn't show well. Here's the crack on the parimeter.

i had a stain on my granite, it was very small and i was gonna live with it, my granite almost forced me to let him do it over.............give him a chance to answer and see if he will stand by his work

So this is week three and still I have yet to hear from the fabricator. I've called and sent emails and still nothing. What should I do??
