I like the layout, but I'm no expert at that (or any kitchen matter). Is the dw too close to fridge? Also, think about the which stool height you prefer when you consider changing the two tier island. I believe the stools you show now are bar height and if you do a single height island, you will have counter height. Two double trash pull outs seems like alot to me, but I guess you should consider how often you typically take out the garbage. We fill one can every day and take it out every night. We fill our recycle bin (just plastics) twice a week and take it out as needed, so dedicating two full cabinets would be overkill for us. We don't put paper recycleables in a bin, so I would just put a box in a base cab for paper and use the other shelves in cab for storage. The world is heading towards alot less newspapers, but only you know your own habits. Another suggestion - glass doors on upper cabinets and maybe beadboard or cabinet panel bs on beverage center to make it look like a hutch. I think this is going to be a great kitchen! Good Luck!

Where would you put your silverware/knives/dishes/etc? The kitchen looks good, but I'm trying to get a feel for when you undo the DW, how far are you walking to put those items away? How far are those items from the food areas (fridge/pantry....?)

One quick thought as DD is screaming at me...think hard about a two tiered island.

Well, another tonight. Check the corner pantry/ fridge configuration to make sure you won't have the fridge door banging into the pantry door. Could be a problem. I'm doing a corner pantry also with the fridge on one side and oven stack on the other so I'm in the same situation.

The designer had it wrong in the drawing, but there was supposed to be a 3 drawer pull out under the appliance garage to the left of the pantry for dishes, glasses, tupperware, etc. I think the silverware is going to be in a drawer on the island somewhere.

It doesn't show it very well in the drawing, but there will be enought clearance for the refrigerater door to open and won't bang into the pantry. Our builder has the same setup where his pantry is next to his 42" refrig too and it works out well.

Ktran, I'm so glad you posted your whole layout. Somehow I missed it until now. For a kitchen that seems to have significant sq footage, there isn't any counter space for prepping. There is some, squeezed between the sink and range, but thats really not enough. Have you considered a prep sink in the island since that seems like that might be the prepping location? This also screams single level island to me for that very reason...Regardless of the height of the island, I really don't understand the shape...It doesn't seem to accomplish anything extra and itreally restricts your storage space in the island. Have you considered something a little more rectangular? Or, have you seen NYSteve's new island configuration? Just some thoughts...Hope they help.

drawers work better for base cab storage - you have few of them. don't let the KD talk you out of them.

Generally, I like the overall flow of the space. Agree with the comments of the island shape. One thought I had was about the appliance garage. What do you plan on keeping in there? If it's a coffee maker, then you have to schlep over to your water source and back to the coffee maker. Food processor? I use mine all the time. So... my final thoughts depend somewhat on how you see the function of that space.

I couldn't tell where you'd store your dishes, but now I read the followup comment that told...I agree with Desertsteph that would be too far for me, it seems limited in size, and needs drawers. The fridge is in the best place for dish storage, and I wonder if you did another style of corner pantry that doesn't protrude into the room, if you might be able to move the fridge to the left of the pantry, facing the aisle. This would open up space in the room, as well as getting more storage where you need it. But I can't tell if you have room without seeing a floorplan.

Do you have a particular style in mind for the kitchen? Does your house have a certain style? I have tried to think of a nicer way to say this, because I really want to avoid the possibility of offending you, but I feel like this design...with the angled pantry, what looks to be a roll-up appliance garage, the oddly shaped and bi-level island...feels dated. But I don't know enough about you or your house to say it's off track. Just wonder if the builder/designer is stuck in a time/style you may not want in the long run, so wanted to say something.

How large is your family? We are a family of 10 with 1 double trash. Two might actually be nice in our kitchen, but I didn't want to give up the room, and it seems a 2nd one for you might be taking up valuable real estate that could be utilized for something else.

Do you have need for space for coffee maker, mixer, toaster/toaster oven, etc., etc? The appliance garage wouldn't hold much and the pantry is so handy to the space. It seems an open counter in that spot would be more flexible and might serve you better.
