Granite vein direction

I am looking at granite for my kitchen. I found a beautiful piece (similar to pic) that I want to put behind the stove which is at the end of the kitchen. The vein would run horizontally. The only problem is, I want to that granite on my island. The island runs perpendicular to the stove so the granite vein would run vertically. Essentially the viens would run in 2 different directions. Would this look odd?

I am going to use a darker granite (butterfly green) on the surrounding surfaces and the cabinets are a dark cherry so I think using butterfly green on the island as well would make for a dark kitchen.

Would be intersted to hear other's thoughts.

That would look so pretty running vertically, like water running down the wall. Are you meaning to use it on the island, too? It is a pretty stone!!

I could more see it running vertically behind the stove on the wall is that what you mean? I understand that you want it to run horizontally on the wall? JMO it would look better vertically behind the stove and horizontal on the island. Nice look and I think it would look great with your butterfly green (verde butterfly?). What is the name of that granite? I don't think I have ever seen it. Very pretty. Good luck!

Threeapples I haven't done anything yet. Just in the early stages of planning a remodel and only know I want white cabs and a whitish stone that isn't marble.Love it, but too afraid of the etching and staining. The Macabus is looking promising, but not sure I want something that linear. Will check out the crosscut. Never seen Danbury in person; yours looks beautiful. Gigi, what is your stone? Thanks so much to all of you who responded. Your kitchens are all beautiful! Boxer, I was leaning in that direction and you confirmed the decision - I just love that granite and think that it will be beautiful either way the flow goes. I just tend to overthink everything! BTW, I had seen some of your kitchen photos online previously and they helped steer me towards the Virginia Mist, so thanks for sharing! I live in Virginia so that makes it special to me, too. I am just hoping the honed won't be too much additional maintenance because I think I'll love the matte finish. Anyway thanks again!

One giant sheet of marble as a look is only possible with natural stone that is sequentially cut. Porcelain, even good faux marble, will always have pattern repeats. Therefore it's best to try to not pick patterns that will accent that fact. Turning them all randomly, and checking to be sure that you don't have repeats too close will give you a look that isn't so obviously faux.

What did she pick? Do you have pictures? Matching the veining on a slab in corners is very common as it's nearly impossible to find 1 slab that is large enough to cover an entire run of a counter. Make sure that the fabricator is laying out the counter pieces on the slab so you can see how all the seams will match up.

If I understand your question correctly, you're wondering if the perpendicular layout would be weird. Right? Rather than them running parallel to each other?

I don't think so.
I agree with the stove wall being vertical (up and down).
The island would be whatever ends up feeling best for you.

That stone is so beautiful in its watercolor look!

I think what you are describing is that you will have a "T" like situation, with it running horizontally on the wall and then at a 90 degree angle to that on the island. While I think that would be fine, I would think about what the others have said about running it vertically on the wall also. Lots of people are doing that and it generally makes your space seem taller/ceiling higher.

Thanks for all of your help - I guess I relly hadn't even entertained the thought of it running vertically. I kept thinking the sea but relooking at it - I must have had blinders on :)
