Town House Kitchen Remodel
Comments (8)Thank you kirkhal & Lynn! We were finally able to see a VP kitchen in person, and we are going to try to work with them. They think they can work with our budget by having more open shelving, which I already wanted, but was having a hard time convincing the others KDs we talked with. We are still in the very begining of the process, so it will be at least a couple of months before we start any work. Feisty: your project seems to be going well! Can't wait to see pictures! That is a great advantage of ikea kitchens: you don't have to wait forever for the cabinetry....See MoreKitchen Cabinets: Dynasty or Bellmont 1600 or...?
Comments (10)The average kitchen project in the US costs around 56K, with about 20K worth of that going towards cabinets. That's average numbers. Some kitchens will be at a level above that and some below. Some kitchens are bigger. Some are smaller. Just talking averages though, that's 20K worth of cabinets. With a 30K budget, the usual breakdown would be around 13K for cabinets, about 4K for counters, around 4K for flooring, 6K for appliances, 1K for plumbing, 1K for electrical, and 1K for incidentals. Realize that the labor for all of that is included in the number as well rather than a separate labor fee. Breaking that out, means that your actual cabinet budget would be around 11K with around 2K for the install. Counters are always installed price. Flooring install will depend on type. Plumbing and electrical, as long as you don't need anything fancy, should be figured 50/50. Like all home projects, the more you can DIY, the more that you can pull from the labor column and put in the materials column....See MoreBellmont 1600 cabinets and other options in price range (NOT IKEA)
Comments (16)Ellsbell, it might help generally if you explained why IKEA is off the table. With no specific reason given, I think people are going to keep suggesting what seems like a really glaringly, obvious excellent solution to your situation. Your cabinets would cost far less than $6,000 there, and they'd look good and work well and are available immediately. Hard to ignore that fact without a reason. Especially when it sounds as if there are some known problems with the Bellmont 1600 line, and your other good options at this price point (Barker and Scherr's) both require lead time you don't have. What comes up often is that people are not considering IKEA kitchens because they are familiar only with IKEA furniture, which is cheap and flimsy. Their kitchen cabinets are far more solid and durable than the rest of their offerings, but the misconception that IKEA's kitchen cabinets are as bad as IKEA's furniture is SO common among new arrivals to the forum that I think many of the commenters are just assuming that is your brother's issue. If that is the case, then it's just a matter of viewing/handling actual kitchen cabinets at IKEA and reading up on how many people are satisfied with the cabinets and the 25-year warranty. We wouldn't want a misconception to be the reason you aren't getting the most for your money and your kitchen and your situation here. On the other hand, another thing that comes up often is that people live, like, 300 miles from the closest IKEA. Which makes getting an IKEA kitchen almost physically impossible without great added bother/expense. If something like THAT is the case for you/your brother, then people would immediately stop suggesting IKEA. What style door is it that you want?...See MoreBellmont 1900 cabinet and installation cost
Comments (2)Bellmont 1900 is a good value. We considered that cabinet line briefly but it didn't offer the finishes we wanted. I think your quote is fair for 36 installed cabinets. Every job is different. The only way to know for sure is to get other bids for a similar design. This is easy to do with Bellmont because they also sell their cabinets at Lowe's under the Latitude brand....See Morenap101
