Ellied, yes, absolutely never ignore bleeding of any kind. I have a 30 something family member who was experiencing blood in the stool and she went to her doc right away. He sent her for a colonoscopy and she said the doc who did the procedure told her she was too young to have polyps...she had two. One they could remove that day but the other was too large and required surgery. Her doc told her had she waited they could have been cancerous in a few more months. It was quite a scare for all of us. I am so happy for your husband that he is doing so well now. Goodluck to both of you!

We have a similar situation -- our dining room is now a library/coffee drinking room for the most part. We do have a table there but really, we just never eat there. We do have an island with three stools so for 1-2 meals a day, the kids sit there. When we have a family dinner (often just 4 of us, sometimes 5 -- which is more cozy) we do all sit at the kitchen table. When it was being built, the guy finished most of the window seat and that night, I went out there and sat on it and realized it was too shallow to be comfortable. Having to tell him the next morning that it had to be made deeper was not one of my best moments! Now I can't remember the depth but it might be 20" or so. It is deep enough for my not-tiny bum and a pillow behind me. In the corner, I sometimes sit there by myself on a Sunday morning with my feet up and read the paper, so it is comfortable. Yes, we have a doorway to the right too! Here is a not great, obviously unstaged picture with all our daily clutter shown. You can see the table is shorter than it COULD be, but I thought it might be too hard to get in and out of the window seat if the table were longer.

Why, thank you! I came up with the plan after spending many, many hours here. the people here are just wonderful! Ok...my kitchen does not have a work triangle, it has zones. It's sort of a wide galley-type set-up. I did not want the heat of the oven anywhere near my main cooking or prep area, so it's at the end on the other side of the kitchen, across from the refrig. The refrig is on the end of the cook-top run. I don't like the french door though, I wish I was hinged on left. My main prep area is to the right of my cook top, and to the left of my prep sink. Since it's a 45° corner instead of a 90° corner, I stand right in this corner and work. I can also watch the TV that's in the living room while I work in this space. There is a raised bar and space for 3 stools there so I can socialize while cooking. The other side of the kitchen has my main sink and the dishwasher. It's usually just me cooking, although at holidays and if family come over, there is easily room for many people in the kitchen. I think we had 8 or so in there during Christmas dinner preparations. The tabletop itself is 28 1/2" X 33 1/2" across. It sticks out past the cab/island itself about 23"-24". We should have left more of an overhang (seating on the sides is a little tight), but we were already encroaching on the adj room with the counter stools, and didn't want to bump further into the room if we could help it. Had we know we'd only be "using" that am't of the table top, we might have had them cut the top a little shorter so it wouldn't overhang the island itself as much as it does, or made the bar of granite on which it sits a little wider.
