Numerar butcher block-condition,stain,seal/waterlox?

We are starting to plan out how/if we want to stain our Ikea Numerar Beech Countertop.

We have decided on Waterlox and will possibly add a coat or 2 of stain.

But I have read a few that used a wood conditioner prior to the stain or waterlox.

Is this needed? I have read many that have just done Waterlox without any wood conditioner so just curious.

Also for those interested , we have an experiment in progress so will keep you posted on how it turns out.

We are testing the following on beech sections of the countertop:

1)Waterlox

Minwax

2)Colonial Maple

3)Cherry

4)Ipswich Pine

5)Natural

6)Pecan Gloss (polyshades)

7)Whitewash Pickling (this one is looking interesting).

We are possibly considering a stained perimeter with white cabinets, and then a light blue island with the whitewash counter (but I'm extremely nervous). It's for the beach place so thought it could be fun.
