tile or beadboard on the back side of the peninsula?
Comments (11)Our peninsula has back to back cabinets (so no need for facing the back side), but it has a raised breakfast bar at the end and we faced that wall with beadboard. We also used beadboard above our hood to the ceiling. I love it, but livewireoak is correct; it does need to suit the style of the house, I think. Ours is stained and we did purchase beadboard in the same species as the cabinets (birch) and it was expensive (both the material and the staining), but it matches perfectly. Where we have toes kicking the breakfast bar, the stained wood is much easier to maintain than painted wood. You said you would paint it and, without the footmark issue, that would be much easier and less expensive for a solution to your peninsula back facing. Oh, and the contractor finished our corners with some kind of birch molding or quarter-round or whatever it is called -stained to match. Because it is at the end of the peninsula and kind of a separate (pony?) wall perpendicular to it, the finished edges look fine... but I'm not sure that kind of edge treatment would work where yours back cabinets. Not sure any of this helps, but I think you could do beadboard, and be happy with it. -Kim...See MoreBack of Bar, Peninsula, etc... what to do?
Comments (3)Would cabinet doors be useful to you on the other side, or are you just looking to break up the plain flat side. If you are just going for visual interest, it seems moulding may be the way go, and you usually can do it relatively inexpensively. Here is a link that might be useful: Island with moulding...See MoreWhat to put n the back side of the peninsula, facing the FR?
Comments (12)I don't have a great pic right now but we put false cabinet doors, that face our dining room, that match our kitchen cabients. This pic shows the dining room side, before we put the knobs on. It is on the back of a drawer stack that faces in to the kitchen. When you open the doors, I hung a cork board there and that's where we put all of our school fliers, calendar, etc. Next to that cabinet we have an actual functioning cabinet that opens in to the dining room and we put all our serving dishes in there. So we needed to match those doors....See MoreBack of peninsula ideas for IKEA Axstad blue and white kitchen, please
Comments (2)Well, it is going to depend on the style of the rest of the house, particularly the dining area but there are so many options. Beadboard, tongue and groove horizontally, herringbone or chevron, shiplap, panelling to mimic wainscoting (you can do this easily with MDF trim), barnboard, tile in a pattern to match your backsplash choice or maybe a larger scale than the backsplash but the same style/design. If you post pictures of your kitchen choices and the dining room, you'll likely get lots of suggestions....See MoreBuehl
