I wanted to include a few photos. I forgot to say that I think my situation may be a bit more complicated because I also have the 4" soapstone backsplash. Moreover, how far beyond the upper cabinets that the soapstone countertop sticks out varies by about 1/2" on the two sides of the stove wall. So if I align the tile with the upper cabinets (as I most likely will), it will still look a tad uneven between the two ends. (Hope this makes sense). Here's the one end of this wall with tile aligned with upper cabinets: And here's the other end, where the soapstone would stick out a tad farther. Let me know what you think.

Thank you everyone for your input! I especially appreciate the photos, it is helpful to see examples. I think I will have it end where the upper cabinet ends. But I'm still trying to figure out an edging solution. One end of the tile is glazed so I may consider using the glazed end on the edge as Lake Girl suggested. I did see a photo of someone on this forum that did that (could be Lake Girl but I can't remember). Otherwise I may use the Schluter edging if it blends w/my tile well enough. They are sending me samples of their three gray colors and their brushed nickel. (my tile is gray)

I have tile down to my countertops in most of my kitchen, so no 4 inch backsplash. I sooo want to redoo my countertops and backsplash and hopefully I will soon. The backsplash tiles are the cheap 4x4 white ceramic tiles that you can get at any big box store (builder installed). They have held up pretty well, but the grout is starting to get a bit hard to clean (it looks kind of dingy) and the silicone between the countertop and the end of the tile is cracked across the whole length of my counter. It doesn't look like there's any water damage there yet (especially behind the sink), but I think it's just a matter of time. There is one small corner of my kitchen where the builder did put the 4 inch backsplash, probably as an afterthought as it is a separate piece of laminate attached to the counter. I hate that backsplash! It gets dusty and takes up uneccessary space. I also think the no backsplash look is a much cleaner, neater look.

show the actual cabinet color . You will have white cab/white window and trim which, being a garden window, is a FOCAL point. The whites may or may not work well together if you introduce a third white[tile]. I might veer away from white for the tile. If the floor has warmth, as in hardwood, or brownish anything, I would pick the right tile you show with the taupe/tan grout....or a light, warm gray, generally. I think I'd go around corner up to side window trim.
