The dreaded where do I end my backsplash question
Comments (20)I am leaning towards bringing it around to the window wall at the same height but I do have a granite riser/sill under the window so will this look okay? Absolutely fine. I love the the look of a herringbone backsplash in a solid neutral color but is that going to be too busy for my kitchen? It will be lovely with the right tile and grout combo. What is your tile budget in $/sf? With your cabinet and granite neutral is key, but lighter neutrals are going to be better choices than more saturated hues. The images below are from Fireclay Tile and show Feldspar, Gardenia, and Tusk. Gardenia is one of my favorites, as is Tusk, and both are part of the Foundations line that runs $15/sf for several sizes including 3"x6" tiles. You can order samples from the website, or look for tiles of similar shades at local tile showrooms. Keep in mind that you will likely want bullnosed edge and/or trim pieces available for whichever tile you choose....See MoreBacksplash edge question
Comments (18)Thanks Wilson, I looked at Schluters, but I didn't think it would look right to introduce another surface/texture/color just in that one area. Mawizz - My lights are partially in, but not fully hooked up yet. I went with recessed puck lights and finished bottoms under my wall cabinets. I did go with strip lights inside the glass cabs because I wanted wood shelves on the interior. But like you, I didn't want the small dots of light reflecting on the countertop. I don't have any pictures to show, but I will take some tomorrow and show you what they look like....See MoreBacksplash question: where to end?
Comments (11)show the actual cabinet color . You will have white cab/white window and trim which, being a garden window, is a FOCAL point. The whites may or may not work well together if you introduce a third white[tile]. I might veer away from white for the tile. If the floor has warmth, as in hardwood, or brownish anything, I would pick the right tile you show with the taupe/tan grout....or a light, warm gray, generally. I think I'd go around corner up to side window trim....See MoreYet another “where to end the backsplash” question.
Comments (5)Why doesn't he want you to move the light switch? It's soooooo easy! Do it when he's not home and see if he even notices. Schluter is no good when it shows up in a classic kitchen like yours (although it has its place)--definitely find a tile with proper trim pieces--and corner pieces--surely you wanna wrap that corner! And, not to side with DH, but if you DO wrap the corner, it might be better to tile higher than the sill because it might look weird on the non-window side to have a stubby backsplash. I can't see that side so I don't know. I've used Fireclay and Pratt&Larson because they make all the trim pieces you can imagine. There are others of course. The need for trim pieces will limit you, but it's worth it....See MoreRelated Professionals
