Polished Nickel or SS cabinet handles - open ended or closed? I need to give an answer by Friday at noon!

YES!! My white shaker cabinets are almost done, the antique jet mist counter is in and it's time for finishing touches and handles. I was so sure that I was doing a total farmhouse/country look but somewhere along the way the clean look of the European style handles just started to seem right.

My crystal knobs, wrought iron or chrome bin pulls have morphed into European bar pulls. On a whim I brought home that style and WOW- IT JUST SEEMED RIGHT!

Now I just need to take the plunge and order them so they can drill the holes for the handles next week.

I found Amerock stainless steel pulls at Home Depot but my kitchen person prefers the Top Knob Hopewell Bar Pull which is in a brushed satin nickel finish. It's in their Nouveau Collection.

Here are the sizes she suggested:

5-5/16" for the 15" drawers and upper cabinets

11-3/4" for the 30" drawers

17-13/16" for the 36" drawers

9-1/8" two glass doors

All drawers will have the handles horizontal in the center of the recessed panel and vertical on the doors.

I'm not sure what size to do for the 24" sink/tray front. Underneath will be 2 vertical handles. What do you think?

If I can get a camera from a friend I'll post better photos. My trusty old Kodak camera just bit the dust!

I need to get them ordered by tomorrow so HELP!

If you don't want open ended pulls check out Hickory Harwares Greenwich collection. They come in approximately the same sizes that you listed. They have a contemporary/european look. I got mine at a local cabinet and hardware store for less money than the online sites. Maybe your kitchen person can find a local place that handles them or you can search the following sites that were listed on Hickory Harwares website as Authorized Online Decorative Retailers:

For my kitchen I used 10 inch pulls on all my regular height cabinets and on my 17 inch drawers. I used the 13 inch pulls on my 24 inch drawers and 19 inch pulls on my 36 inch drawers. My 13 inch drawers have the 6 inch pull on them as does one 15 inch cabinet door. The pulls are a brushed stainless steel finish. They are a nice quality and not too expensive.
The item number and sizes that I used are listed below just in case you might be interested.
P3371ss c/c: 128 mm L: 6-3/8"
P3041ss c/c: 224 mm L: 10"
P3374ss c/c: 12" L: 13-1/4"
P3375ss c/c: 18" L: 19-1/4"
They also have a pull that is 4-5/16" long and a knob that is 1-3/4"

Pocket catchers..that's what my KD called them when I mentioned those during our first meeting. As soon as he said it, I knew he was right. I changed to a closed pull.
Topknob Pennington bar pull.. They might be a tad thick..but I love how weighty and solid they are.

These are 6 5/16th on the small cabinets, 8 13/16ths on the pantry and large deep drawers.

Hi Sayde! Accck! I wasn't clear! I *meant* to say I'd get one gas oven and one regular electric oven (as opposed to one gas oven and one electric convection). I would not get the convection oven again. I love having a one of each heating source and wouldn't trade that!! As to the convection feature...I had Thermador C-series 30" double ovens in my last house. I loved and was spoiled by the convection features. If I wanted convection, just push the "button." If I didn't want convection, then I had regular electric. I could power bake 6 racks of cookies! On the Lacanche, the electric convection is "all the time." It's no problem to convert the temp or time adjustments in recipes. There are only 4 racks. There are times when I wish I didn't have the convection feature. My fan seems to blow really hard. I do bake lots of cupcakes/muffins. If I forget to check on them midway through baking, they usually end up really lopsided...blown over looking. If I remember to set the time for 1/2 the time, then I am able to catch it, rotate the pan and it is no issue. It's just a little nuisance. I don't do nearly as much cookie power baking...but if I did, I'd get the Lacanche and a separate single wall oven for convection. Cakes, too...sometimes they get lopsided if I don't catch them in time. Everything else I do in the elec conv oven turns out perfectly fine. The fan in the Lacanche elect conv oven projects inward and decreases the cavity depth of the oven. This has never been an issue for me with the Sully-size oven, but I have read folks with the Cluny-size oven say they'd rather have the space than the convection. Anyway...I've made the short story too long! I was just very spoiled with really versatile convection features in another brand's oven. Today, though, I's still buy the Lacanche! HTH!

Marcolo - I love the faucet in every way but these two ways: a) there's a slight jiggle which I'm told is normal (back to front jiggle, if that makes sense). It's minimal and doesn't affect how it functions but after two other faucets first, I realized I had to stop being so picky. There are also ways to make it tighter but it would involve some monkeying (e.g. replace some inside part with another part). b) the levers are 99% straight but I want them 100% straight. A plumber happened to be over today and darn it if I didn't forget to ask him to try straightening them out. But in the past - with a past faucet of the same type from them - they were a bit off in another direction. And yet the guy whose kitchen inspired me and who I managed to contact had neither of these issues. I'm hoping that too can be monkeyed with but it might have those grooves (?) which after moving to the next one might make it too far the other direction - who knows. I can make them straight (pointing straight down in the off position) but the left side isn't 100% turned all the way as far as it will go (still no dripping though which is good). What I love about it is that it's powerful; if you pop the spout up it sprays and if you have it down, it does the usual thing. I love that it's not so powerful that it sprays you all over and yet still sprays you enough (due to being so tall - as all good-quality faucets do when they're tall) that I usually keep in in the shower position in which case it doesn't spray you at all. I love how unique it is and how no one ever notices how camouflaged it is - how you just pull the camouflaged hose off the top of the neck and spray all over your sink for better cleaning (or into a coffee pot). I love that it's the ONLY wall-mounted, traditional looking, gooseneck faucet that offers a built-in sprayer with no holes being cut into one's countertop. I love the choice of levers/handles/wheels (stainless, white with think silver stripe or black with thin silver stripe) - they look very elegant. And lastly, I love the solid stainless steel, polished. Looks very warm - almost like nickel - and is stunning to look at. So if we were talking stars, I'd give it a 4.5 or so out of 5. Customer service is good, too. How's that? Did I leave anything out? :)

Home Depot's line of Martha Stuart hardware. Most of them are a special order, but they arrived at my doorstep in about 4 days. Weight is nice and sturdy, finished to a beautiful shine and most are a the commmon 3" center to center screw installation, which means that swapping them out in 5 years for a different finish means no new holes spackle or drilling that ruin a nice cabinet. My contractor even asked where I got them because he said most cheap out with the screws but these came with top quality installation hardware. He was shocked when I told him HD. @fatcatz, I don't know if you like Traditional style, but I am about to buy Moen's Weymouth Single Handle Pull Down Spray faucet in polished nickel. I've been researching for a few days and came across an article from Starcraft Builders saying Moen's Polished Chrome, Polished Nickel, Polished Brass, Brushed Gold, Brushed Nickel, and Classic Stainless finishes are PVD. The remaining finishes are either Powder Coat or Electroplate. It's a great article, really goes in depth on the PVD process. Echoed your point about not always being the metal used in the PVD process. That being said, in reading the section on Electroplating, taken from the article: "Undercoats of copper, zinc, or nickel usually precede the final decorative coating. The undercoats have two purposes. Some metals, chrome being one, do not adhere very well to naked brass. One or more nickel undercoats are usually used before the chrome is applied so the finish does not flake or peel. If finishing a zinc component, undercoats of copper then nickel are commonly used. The copper sticks well to zinc, nickel adheres tightly to copper, and chrome bonds securely to nickel. Undercoats also help smooth out any small imperfections in the faucet material. It is not uncommon for faucets to be electroplated with nickel and chrome and then highly polished before a final PVD coating is applied. This process eliminates any potential flaws in the surface so they don't show up in the final PVD finish." Link to the article follows, below. So much to think about. The wooden cabinets in the first photo and the darker floor in the second work well with the heavier and bigger handles. I think the weight as well a the size of those handles would be too much for my small space.

My floor is light and even thought the jet mist counter could be considered dark it has a lightness to it. It looks like there are wisps of clouds or chalkboard dust through the gray and is only dark when it's wet. Does anyone even remember chalkboards?

Are knobs just as much a problem as the open-ended pulls?

I had to toss in a photo of the template being done for the counter. I was so worried about a seam , the edge, the size and having the counter installed has been the best part of the entire kitchen process so far. I can't rave enough about the granite installation - for their advice, promptness and quality of service. If anyone needs a good place in NJ let me know. I feel like I went everywhere and my efforts really paid off.
