Garage Doors for NE need input
Comments (5)We have double insulated steel with a remote automatic garage door opener, and have been very pleased with them. They look like new a decade later. Our house is not really organic looking, so the doors blend well with its eclectic mix of building materials, but I would think that a coat of paint would make them look more natural. We left ours unpainted. My past experience with wood is that it is great for interior use, but warps and deteriorates quickly when exposed to the elements, and only slightly less quickly when pressure treated....See MoreWalk-in Closet Door ---- In-swing vs Out-swing?
Comments (23)The closet plan needs to be drawn accurately to be able to see that the door should open inward. Hanging clothes require 24" of depth instead of the approx. 18" shown in the posted diagram. Clothes rods that turn corners create dead storage. The clear space in the middle should be at least 3 ft wide. If the hanging storage on the left side wall (as you enter) was shown as 24", then the storage on the right side would need to be no deeper than 12" to allow a 3 ft open space. But even with that configuration the storage immediately to the left as you enter would need to be removed to allow enough width for comfortable entering and to allow access to the storage in the corner. Using an in-swing door might reduce the shelving length by a foot but IMO that is not enough storage to justify opening the door out into the bathroom where it would be in the way. As for whether the door swings to the right or left, you should avoid putting a door knob in a corner especially when there is an obsticle on the adjacent wall. Which way did it get built? There is really only one good way to swing this door and fortunately the contractor realized it in time to correct the designer's mistake....See MoreHow would you cover a patio with these challenges? Comments (9)Travertine - nice. Just research about the natural pits with freeze/thaw. I believe the same amount of effort and the very same process you would use to design your house or kitchen remodel should be applied to the outdoor living spaces. Your space needs should determine the size of pergola. You may want it close to the house for the other ~8 months the pool is not used. Plan for a future fireplace or pit too. If roofed then you are dealing with more loads. Not a fan of the ribbed polycarbonate panels, unless you have a gutter, there will be a waterfall at the back (and if next to the house you may get water into the basement from the concentrated load), and they get "scratchy" long-term. But, they're an option. Also place the tv on a south wall so you can see it. Your travertine will be sand set, not mortared, so portions can be removed in the future as you zero in on the design of the pergola....See MoreFrench Doors in new galley kitchen - inswing or outswing?
Comments (8)I think you have to do inward swing by code. I think some locales allow outward swing if you have an overhang. What about a single door with sidelites like this instead? https://www.homedepot.com/p/Masonite-72-in-x-80-in-Primed-White-Steel-Prehung-Right-Hand-Inswing-10-Lite-Clear-Glass-Patio-Door-with-Venting-Sidelites-521269/100026024 We have this one and really like it, but it's out of stock. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Ashworth-72-in-x-80-in-Pro-Series-White-Full-Lite-Painted-Wood-Prehung-Front-Door-with-Venting-Sidelites-PE1WR/203368615...See MoreUser
