Donating appliances
Comments (10)Around here there are charities that come around with a truck and pick up items for resale in charity shops. You can check with Habitat for Humanity since they often resell things they can't directly use in their ReStores. However, I am not sure if charities will want appliances that old since energy efficiency has improved quite a bit over time. When my mom had older appliances to get rid of we advertised them on the free part of Craigslist and all were picked up by folks who needed working appliances but couldn't afford new. (After 5 responses I removed listings and told folks by email where they were in line for the items, and that they would only hear from me again if the folks before them in line didn't show up to pick things up.) It was pretty easy and a whole lot better that just adding them to the trash....See Moredonating old appliances
Comments (4)We also used Habitat to donate many parts that we were not able to re-use. In addition to appliances, they took light fixtures, cabinet doors, wainscoting, shelving, closet doors, knobs, etc. If you don't have luck with your local Habitat branch, you might try a church, community center or other non-profit in your area. If they can't take it directly, they may know a family in need to connect you with. Our W/D went to a member of the contractor's crew, frig. and old freezer went to a community center and oven went to Habitat. Although none of these were pretty, they still had some life in them and I was glad they did not end up in the dump quite yet....See Moreold appliances... what did you do with them??
Comments (15)Per my daughter's advice I posted them on Craig's List. Gas stove, 25.4 cu. ft. s x s fridge, DW, and OVR micro were mid price range, white, and 5 yrs. old. They were in excellent condition-never had any problems with any of them. Hope I don't regret this decision to get rid of them! I got tons of offers and happily sold them all to one buyer-a young couple who had just bought their first house and didn't have much money left over to buy all new appliances. The woman, who came with her dad to see them before buying, was so excited. I'm a fool for keeping my stuff very clean so those appliances looked almost brand new. DH and I felt good being able to help this nice couple out plus what I got for them paid for half of my new stove. My new stainless ones were delivered yesterday and I'm already wiping them down with my micro fiber cloths-think I'm going to miss the easy to keep clean white ones!!...See Moreunused decor items--Sell? Comments (16)If I can't sell an item on CL, I lower the price. How about lowering your price down to $45? If not sold, then down to $30 for both? I posted a few pieces for sale on CL this weekend. One of them, a beaten-up Mission style nightstand was sold for $25 in a couple of hours. The remaining two items are still up. If no takers within an week, I'll start lowering the prices in $5 increments. Usually it works. I also put OBO in my ads. Also, how long has your ad been on CL? If I sell something in 3-4 weeks, it's normal. If I sell a piece in less than two weeks, I'm lucky. A high end (and higher priced) Italian designer set of dining chairs in need of restoration took me 6 months to sell. Goodwill and Salvation Army are my last resorts....See Morebadgergal
