Of knives and coffee grinders

Since our remodel keeps getting postponed, I've decided to go ahead with a lot of the small items I was planning to wait to buy until we finished. Since you folks know all about what's available for everything, two items I really need are:

1. A decent knife/cleaver for cutting hard squash. My current cheap knives make it impossible to cut even a butternut squash accurately in half, and I can more or less forget about something like Hubbard squash. Suggestions? What's your favorite for this sort of work?

2. Coffee grinder. I'm the only coffee drinker here, so I never make more than a four-cup pot per day. I have a toastmaster grinder that was given to me as a gift and it grinds pretty well, but it doesn't work unless you put in enough beans to cover the blades, which is a lot more beans than I need to grind. Anyone have any suggestions for a good small-capacity grinder? Manual is okay. I don't mind that.

Thanks for any suggestions.
