How small can a prep sink be and still be useful?

Is a 12 x 13 (interior bowl size) prep sink too small to do anything with? Do you just end up banging your hands on the sides while trying to wash veggie? Does anyone have a small prep sink and love or hate it? Any size you recommend?

We have a small kitchen (13 x 8.3) but have fallen in love with the idea of having two sinks - one for clean-up and one for food prep. DH loves to cook and is a bit proprietary about it, so we've designed the kitchen so that we can both be in there at the same time and be more or less out of each others' way.

DH wants a sink for prepping food between the stove and the fridge. We'd love to have it fit in a 15" or 18" cabinet. He wants it to be at least 12" square so that he can fit his favorite colander into it.

We found a sink (Ticor - thanks to those who recommended that brand!) that is 13 x 16 on the interior, but it looks huge in the space.

thank you!
