Maybe dedicate a narrow depth drawer for spices. Some people like the pullouts (3"-6") for spices and oils.

These are our cabinet interiors if this gives you any ideas. I may have gone a bit overboard with interior organizers but I really like everything to be in its place.

We also have a knife block and an OXO utensil holder in one drawer:

In the "pantry" storage drawer, those boxes are pull out boxes so items can be moved as a group:

For our paper towel holder, we also included a little niche next to it for dish towels or a sponge in a soap tray. We did this to make the opening even with the 24" dishwasher drawers below. (Bad rendering, but you get the idea):

It's not done, but I am hoping it will work well and everything will go where it belongs!

Haven't seen that OXO utensil holder - very cool! Love the idea of not having to dig around for the corkscrew or the pizza cutter!

I also saw this under sink drawer - anyone ever done this? I can see where this would be so much more practical than a tip out.

think about things like panels as well. do you want your dishwasher or fridge to be integrated into the cabinetry if so you need to order one to match. depending on where these items are in your kitchen it can really make a difference.

I have a ROTS (roll out tray shelf) in the bottom of the cabinet on my clean-up sink. I forget who did it before me, but I got the idea here. It is FANTASTIC! No digging around behind the disposer, no reorganizing after any plumbing. It isn't actually plumbing that has caused it to come out, but when workmen need access they just lift the whole thing out, even though it's wide, and all the bits and pieces stay just as they were. The Cushy Cupboards helps, of course.

I also have horizontal tray shelves, in addition to vertical platter storage and other storage for cutting boards. My mother designed this, and I wasn't having a custom kitchen without it. It's thin shelves a couple of inches apart, wide base cabinet. Fantastic!

Rather than the magic corner or super susans, I had corner drawers put in. There's more actual storage space, and they're fabulous to use.

Thanks all - yes we are paneling the dishwashers (we have two - one on either side of the sink). I love the idea of the roll out tray shelf below the sink!!! You guys are great!

I'll check into the corner drawers . . How do they look closed? I have only seen them open.

I have a pull-out broom closet which is about 7" wide and (in my case) 8' tall, counter depth beside my fridge. It has a shelf with a rail on it about 12" down from the top and then 3 hooks - one for the broom, dry mop and bona mop.

I tried to get my guy to make a toekick drawer for the stepstool but he balked. I've seen this in photos on the GW.

And as usual, I recommend a pullout board next to refrig for sandwich & leftovers station and one for baking and one for chopping.

The drawers either side of our range are shorter front to back so that we could put knife slit on the back of one countertop and 3 holes for utensil canisters at the back of the other. Cuts down on any idea that the room is formal but it sure is efficient.

What about end panels as well? Are any cabinets runs open to other rooms at the end? you might want these paneled instead of flat.

Florantha - what do you mean by pull out board? Do you mean a pull out top rail cutting board? My grandmother had one of those in her kitchen and I always thought it was very cool . . . and it would make sense for us as we will have a walnut island where I don't want anyone to cut :)

Not a great photo, but here's my closed corner drawers. They just look like drawers. In the other corner they line up with the perimeter drawers.

My cabinetmaker and I also redesigned the drawer boxes. Instead of having them square at the back end, and ending at the full extension of the slides, we changed the shape to follow the angle of the corner and to go all the way back to the wall. There's just as much room beyond the counters as full extension drawers have. The part underneath is extra. :)

If you're doing inset cabinets, you can't do the corner drawers (I think. :))

It is not too tall for me... 5'5". All you need is to reach the bottom of the trays. I have no problem whatsoever putting things away and/or removing them. I bought dividers and installed myself after the fact for this cabinet. IKEA, among others, sells the divider pieces to separate trays. I love this placement and use of this cabinet. I can't imagine using it for anything else as conveniently......

I like my Kitchenaid mixer stand/cabinet. It is a luxury item to me, but it eases the burden of a heavy mixer and cleans up the area.

You've gotten so many great ideas! Here's two that I think haven't been mentioned:

1) cabinet depth wine rack -- simplest are the diagonal slats that are often seen above the fridge or wall oven or sink. They can be customized into just about any dimension you want

2) 9" pull-out shelves (3 or 4 levels). We discovered this by accident when a last minute island enlargement left us with a 10" cabinet. Not terribly useful, so we purchased a pull-out shelf unit from rev-a-shelf. Love it -- it's built as well as our custom cabinets and I suspect it was a lot cheaper than if we had had our cabinetmaker design it :) Just a thought.

re pullout boards... we have the three described above (baking one is wider than the others) and we also have a fourth which is shown in photo below. In photo I've pulled out the pullout board as well as the drawer below it. The drawer has a towel lying over the contents of the drawer--my activity is flower arranging and this way I can dump wastes onto towel and when I'm done I just shake towel over the waste basket. Often I do this at chopping station where the waste bin lies right below, but this day that station wasn't available and the alternative allowed me to compose centerpieces in front of a neutral bkgd (the curtain).

I like using a stool at a pullout board--saves feet, back, legs and puts my knees under the work which allows me to really get into the work.
