Do you have any favorite single bloom roses?
Comments (32)If you have a lot of room, you could track down a plant of the 'Trier' x 'Mutabilis' seedling 'Plaisanterie' - it's one rose that totally shows it's heritage of both parents. It's gorgeous, hardier than 'Mutabilis' and also cleaner here in Maryland in terms of disease resistance so far. Definitely more of a climber, but the flowers are exactly the coloring of 'Mutabilis', perhaps even pink/peachier and contained in the petal form of 'Trier' in that charming multiflora manner. I love it. Here is a link that might be useful: Plaisanterie on HMF...See MoreIf I could have any speciality/theme garden....?????
Comments (29)I came to this post late, but I have enjoyed each and every one of these dreams immensely. Eduarda, your dream sounds a lot like like Huntington Gardens in San Marino, CA, right down to the tea room. It's a huge place, with art galleries, a research library, a rose garden, and themed gardens from different parts of the world. I love going there. It's not free; the admission is a bit steep, but it's well worth the visit, if you ever come this way. Lorinscott, have you considered those doggy suppliments that take the burn out of dog urine? I have a friend who uses the pill form for her little dog, and she swears by them. Her lawn is perfectly green. I haven't tried them because my poochie already takes two prescriptions, but you could ask your vet about them. I don't think they're expensive. cziga, I'm aiming towards the Secret Garden with my cottage/potager. It's isolated behind my garage, and I think of it as my special "hiding" place. I ofen fantasize about owning a hobby farm/bed and breakfast combination. A place that has a homey restaurant (and pub) supplied by the gardens outside, where people could come to escape for a weekend. It would be a fantasy place, like it popped right out of the Shire. It would have acreage with hiking trails, and it would be a real working farm with animals, but it would also be quaint with a fairybook quality to it. I know it's not practical at all, but I often think of it....See MoreMarble backsplash: Any special care needed?
Comments (9)Etching isn't a chip, crack or stain. It's when you get a sort of dull spot on the surface of your marble. That's why many people prefer to use a honed marble, because a dull spot shows much more on a polished surface than a matte one. I think my new honed marble countertop already has some etching on it but I can only see them in bright light when I duck down and look at the countertop from the side at eye level. I've read that light etching can be removed with a little marble polishing powder....See MoreDo you have any Roses that you are fond of?
Comments (10)Why, hello again, Mike! One of my favourites is Neptune (seen in my avatar), with its delicate mauve shade and lovely deep perfume. I'm also very fond of Marilyn Monroe, with its delightful pale peach colour. Then there's good old Double Delight! Neptune Marilyn Monroe I LOVE this one. Depending on the day or light levels, its colour seems to change from sunset yellow to pale peach to rosy salmon. Just lovely and very underrated IMO. Double Delight This one has a particular scent to my nose, with a soapy note. Actually, it reminds me of rose-scented soap. Othello Splendid colour and deep fruity scent, but alas, the blooms fade and wilt very quickly. Anna's Promise is also very pretty Off topic, but because we don't discuss the magic of lilacs often enough, a picture of my little Wonderblue from last spring: Sigh. I'm dreaming of spring already. =)...See Morethahalibut
