4 slices toaster oven choice
Comments (15)I just got my brevile 4 slices yesterday. I already tried it with toasts and bagels. I love the way it browns them while the inside is still soft. My only complaint is that the 4 slices looks cheaper made than the 6 slices. The 6 slices is all stainless steel while the 4 slices has just the front, while the sides an top made of regular steel sprayed grey to give the stainless steel look. Also the knobs are made with plastic painted grey, to give the same fake look. So as performance I give it A+ but for the look a B. I am debating whether to return it and get the 6 slices or not. As far as size there is a 2" increase in length and width and 1 1/4" in hight. As far as price about $50.00 more .I really do not need a second oven. I just changed appliances in my kitchen and have a new kitchenaid microwave/ convect oven and oven combo that I love and working fine until now after 2 selfcleaning cycles. And I have a 36" dual fuel kitchenaid range. So I already have 2 convection ovens. What do you think , should I go with the 6 slices or not for the quality ?. I really do not know why they gave the 4 slices this cheap look....See MoreShow me your toaster...where does it go????
Comments (26)Sorry I just skimmed these responses, but if noone suggested it-try a google image search for "toaster drawer" I'll try to link one below. I've also found images of toaster storage ideas under searches like "small appliance storage." I've seen them stored in island and pantry pullouts with an outlet inside, of course it's probably not a great idea to just leave them plugged in in there. Like you, we use our toaster daily, but I'm adamant it not be on the counter. We are planning a toaster drawer in the island on the side away from the range, so that pulled out while in use (and left open briefly to let it cool down before unplugging and pushing it back into to island) it's not in the way during those weekends where we're fixing a big breakfast at the same time. Here is a link that might be useful: toaster drawer...See MoreTwo oven kitchen configuration
Comments (9)If space is tight, then there is one more option you could add to your list. That would be a Double Oven Range. Some of these are more like an oven and a half. We've had one of these for the last few years, and it has been handy. The 1/2 oven gets used frequently for things like casseroles, or other flattish type things that we bake. We're switching to a double wall oven since we have a big family and now have the space for a wall oven in our new house. But the double oven range was a great compromise in our last house. We definitely can use 2 ovens, but I think I'm going to miss having the small oven for it's super-fast heat ups. That was really convenient....See MoreDo I need a microwave?
Comments (29)Temporary hijack for which I apologize in advance but still plunge ahead :- O (If I can save someone somewhere reading this from microwave popcorn it will be worth living with reputation as a hijacker. I will wear the scarlet H. LOL) LOL pillog-- in university, we often considered stirring broccoli into the mac and cheese from a box cooking . But our run down rental house in West Philly had an ancient gas range and my roommate took a sharpie to it and marked the perfect setting for making oil popped popcorn. Med-med high flame. That was the one marking on our cooktop--the sharpie mark for the popcorn setting. Kind of like the precursor to the 'popcorn' button on a microwave?? Anytime we had to stay up all night writing papers, we ate a hell of a lot of popcorn! It is very easy--just put enough oil on the bottom of the pan (heavy bottom large pot , cover the entire bottom of the pot well and then some), throw in some Orville Redenbacher kernels, tip pan from side to side to roll kernels around in the oil to coat them all in oil before cooking, put a lid on, turn heat to the sharpie marking. :) Take off when popping sounds slows to almost nothing (don't check! listen for popping), don't let it burn. Immediately transfer to big bowl and salt amply (fine grained salt best)! Your movies never tasted better....See Moredoonie
