11 years agoI don't have it but have seen it. One of the inspiration pics for my kitchen had one by itself on the side of a U shaped kitchen. Here's another pic.
I have also been in an amazing kitchen where they actually used a window in place of a backsplash for an entire wall. Quite something and the light on the counter was fabulous.

Sorry it was night and the shade was down too so no light was coming in.

Comments (14)Would shutters interfere with the crank for the casement windows? Where would they be mounted and where would they stack? While I am no great fan of them in general (and that's my personal taste speaking), I think this may be a perfect place for neat, clean blinds or shades. Something transluscent, if you opt for the latter. A neat Roman shade might be an alternative, but you will have to think carefully about how you plant to mount it and how its lower edge will "mesh" with the cranks for your windows. Also, it's likely that an inside mount Roman will create more stack than a commercially available blind or shade. You could also do sheer panels (shirred or otherwise) on tension rods, but you will lose visibility to the sides of the window opening if you opt to "open" them. You have to decide how important it is to have the view completely "open" to the view, THAT is going to lead you to the best choice for your kitchen. Comments (5)Don't mean to hijack the thread but I have the same question as OP. The house has (sort of) transitional style. The current moulding is very traditional and clashes with my contemporary streamlined kitchen. Contemporary works in the house as long as it is not "stark contemporary", iykwim. Comments (2)I don't think I would. For me it would depend, in part, on the depth of the window ledge. You might want to try a mock-up using your tiles and double stick tape to give you a, somewhat, better picture of what it will look like. BTW, the mini-windows are a great idea....See Morerocketmomkd

11 years agoWe do have a window over the sink, but we also have a window over the range. I love the range window. Spatters clean off easily, and the strong exhaust fan keeps most of them from ever happening. Several people have done this, and perhps someone can get you more photos if the idea might fit your kitchen. The windows are sometimes much larger than mine.
I think windows can go almost anywhere and are always a big plus in the confined spaces of a kitchen.

11 years agoOur window in the corner. No window over the sink, but we did knock a hole in the wall between the kitchen and dining room, over the sink, which allows the light to pass through.

11 years agoNo window over our sink either. We took it out and put a single french door in it's place. We moved the sink to a new location further down the counter.

11 years agoWe have one window on each side of the soon to be range wall. The windows are in but nothing else is except frame for custom hood. Our sink will be in the island.

I am a firm believer in putting a window anywhere you can!! You won't regret it.
