Kristine - your cabinets are beautiful!!! I love dark granite also. Most of the pictures I've been looking at have lighter granite with darker cabinets, but I personally think the dark granite looks very nice. I'm doing cream cabinets with a dark island & will have dark granite on both. I'm not sure about fingerprints - I have 3 kids also, so I'm interested in that response. I don't know if 1 1/4" is enough for cup pulls - I think mine are 2" & its going to be tight, but since you have a raised panel it might work. Can't wait to see your finished kitchen pics!

The part of the clip holding the bolt should be fairly level when you begin and when you are done. This means that the bolt will be vertical and acts like a jack screw as the threads push down on the clip and that tensions the bracket on the sink. So now you need some method to capture and securely hold the end of the bolt without it popping out, or splintering wood under the counter. Drilling a part way hole in the underside of the counter might work or you might need to glue and nail another piece of wood of suitable thickness with a hole drilled in it first. The clips aren't meant to take a lot of pressure anyway, more of a way to keep things steady while the silicone sealant sets up.

There are pros & cons for each type of reveal: Positive--where the sink shows/granite is cut slightly larger than sink Pros: easier to clean b/c you can see the gunk and can easily wipe it off (it only gets nasty if you leave it there) Cons: silicone (caulk?) is visible, but if they use clear you won't see it when it dries Negative--where the granite overhangs the sink Pros: You cannot see the gunk buildup or silicone Cons: -- You cannot see the gunk to clean it. -- Dirty water/food can splash up & under where you cannot see to clean it. It's difficult to see underneath w/o leaning way over & into the sink. -- Dishes have been known to break b/c when you lift them out near the edge of the sink they dish hits the stone counter & can break (or, if the dish wins, the counter could chip...but I'm not sure how likely that is). Flush--where the granite & sink are the same Pros: -- easier to clean b/c you can see the gunk -- no platform over or under for the gunk to collect Cons: -- more difficult to do perfectly -- silicone is visible, but if they use clear you won't see it when it dries You will find proponents of all three types of reveals here...but in the end it's what works best for you. Yes, they have already taken the piece back and will reshape the whole thing. There are no seams in this piece. They had actually done a new template and said it would be no problem to position the sink with a 4" set back, but then they twice got in slabs that don't match the rest of the counter. So they've now given the options of having the slabs not match or cutting the existing sink piece to try to get the sink closer (although it still wouldn't be as close as it could be). I'm prepared to push for more options, but I want to know everything wrong with this plan before we talk to them again.
