pot rack over island ?
Comments (2)Hi, I cannot supply a picture of a pot rack over an island as when we built our island years ago, we didn't think it was practical, especially from a lighting scenario. We ended up swagging a line from the original electrical box that was over our kitchen since the island was not in the exact same location. With an island and the additional storage you just might find that a pot rack is not needed and there is plenty of room for your pots and pans in the island cabinet. We also know others who felt that their pot rack was a waste for them. Best, Bob...See MorePot rack over island?
Comments (29)We've got the farm thing going, too. Dust is an ever-present "friend" here. I decided to post a picture of our beam when I had the pots hanging from it (please excuse my clutter, LOL) We're working on getting more storage built in to the kitchen, but it's not done yet. Our beam is 8' to the underside, and I simply hammered some nice strong long-shanked nails into it to hold the pots. Function all the way. : ) The pots were just high enough for us to walk under. Before you invest in a rack, you might want to measure and see just how far the pots would hang down after the rack was installed. I have a hard time feeling comfortable with objects in my head space-and I'm only 5' 4"! At 5' 10", your view may be through the pots rather than under them if the ceiling is 8 feet high....See MoreMy Fabulous New Pot Rack!
Comments (18)Love the mockup! I like the single bar look. You are in good company.. Our kitchen remodel was part of our whole house rebuild and I spent way more time for the kitchen than the rest of the house. I mocked up each of the layout iterations with empty packing cartons and had a written script of use cases (morning breakfast rush, evening dinner with family, party with friends who like to help, family get togethers with family who does not help but likes to hover closeby, jam making session, summer outdoor party to test traffic from kitchen to courtyard, etc.) to test the layout. My DD loved it! DH was in awe at this side of me (he has never seen me in professional capacity) and occasionally thought I was nuts like when I measured 45deg angles to figure out if the ergonomic countertop height was 33 or 34 in. And when I did arm measurements for the main users of the kitchen to figure out the "mise en place". There was minor rebellion when I sought to measure the inverted V for ventilation(Kaseki is to blame)... from all 5 burners. We had props that we "borrowed" from real kitchen (cereal boxes, old knifes, dishes, furniture, printed labels). It came home to me when I was grocery shopping with a friend and the guy in the produce come over very excited and spoke to me in rapid Spanish and was pointing to the back. The assistant manager walked over and explained that he had saved empty cartons for me in the back alley :) oh and when the cabinets arrived, DD ran over excitedly announcing that the men are bringing the "real kitchen" :) If we are TKO in a public forum, then at home, you can only imagine..phew.. It was good to get this off the chest:)...See MoreDoes a pot rack over an island ever work?
Comments (9)I love pot racks in theory-- all my favorite old tools hanging there ready to use, no digging around, plus the extra space of course-- but in practice, I don't think they work well. Daily use pots and pans can look a little grungy on the outside. I think they are fine for public veiwing, not everyone would agree. I'm not going to waste precious hours cleaning the outside of a pot that's already germ free [due to heat] just because it has some baked on residue. If you aren't the sort of person that likes that lived in look I think a potrack is a constant vexation. Because rarely/never used cookware on a rack gets greasey and dusty, needs to be run through the DW on occasion. In essence, it becomes a display, but a higher maintenence one than need be. A rack full of dusty, spiderwebby pots is about as gross a thing as you can hang over your cooking area....See Moreantiquesilver
