electric wall oven under gas cook top

i have a 36" gas cooktop and am considering placing a kitchen aid electric built-in below. can i get by with a 30" or would it look silly even if i placed panels on either side? or do i really need to buy a 36" which runs about $1200 more? any suggestions for 36" ovens other than kitchen aid? convection oven is a plus but not a necessity.

I'm installing a 27" Bosch oven under a 36" Bertazzoni drop-in cooktop. As long as it's centred I don't see it as odd at all. I want the 27" for fuel economy and, having grown up in England with 24" or even 21" ovens have no issues with the size. I think a range top would look odd, but I don't actually think it would fotover an oven anyway.

I think it would look just fine. There is a visual break between the two because of the edge of the countertop, which makes them look separate anyway. If your cooktop was one of those rangetop thingies that have an apron in the front, it might look odd though.

I have purchased the GE Profile induction cooktop, but it has not been installed yet so I can't tell you how well it works but I know Consumer Reports liked it. I was choosing between it and the Bosch (wanted to buy from my local dealer rather than some big conglomerate) and got such a terrific deal on the GE that I went with it. (I bought my appliances in November when GE was having a really good rebate program, but the appliances are not to be delivered until the GC is ready to install.)

Doing a cooktop and wall oven is more expensive than doing a range. Also, placing a wall oven under a cooktop makes it be lower to the ground than the one in the range. It's harder to get stuff in and out of. Your counter costs more because you're now paying for the whole section plus a cutout rather than two pieces on either side. Traditionally this has only been done because somone wanted a gas cooktop with an electric oven. With modern dual fuel appliances available, most of that reason has gone by the wayside. I'd strongly suggest exploring an induction range rather than gas. It's as responsive as gas, but with less heat lost into the home.

I tried to do this - i had a dacor oven and dacor cooktop over it and i wanted a thermador cooktop (new). It didn't work. The tubing collided with the mold of the oven. Only same manuf seems to work in my research. You have to see if it is supported even then. Your appliance store might help you here.

My best friend has a Viking cooktop that she is very happy with, 4 years trouble free. $600 is real tempting. But her only complaint is that is doesn't have a very low simmer. If you need good simmer capabilities you probably should look at another brand. I'm about to install a Wolf cooktop that I bought in part for it's simmering. The GE Monogram has dual stacked burners and is suppose to have great simmer also. After tons of research on this site and elsewhere, I decided on an Electrolux oven. In MOP it gives the best bang for the buck out there. Do a search here for these and your other possible choices, and you will find a wealth of info. Good luck.

Just don't do it with Jenn-Air appliances. I was going to do the exact same thing (36 inch gas cooktop and 30 inch electric oven) until I plugged in the oven and it was very loud. The oven vented out the front and a very loud blower made it sound like a microwave vent was on (nearly the whole time the oven was on bake).

The look you wish to accomplish is very clean and custom. I too, had ordered pannels for the sides and it would have made for a very clean, sleak look. It was just not to be for me. I purchased a 40 inch range instead and am pleased with the purchase. I am a DIY and the cooktop/oven option would have taken considerably more time. Do the 30 inch oven and 36 cooktop, it will look great!
