Replacement of Under-Cabinet Microwave

As shown in the picture below, I currently have a biscuit GE range with microwave above. I am very happy with the biscuit appliances (even though I know many would disagree) because I love the monochromatic look with my kitchen cabinets. However, the microwave is just too large and bulky over my range, and I am going to take it out. The problem is that there arenÂt many attractive range hoods in biscuit currently on the market. One option is the Broan slide-out range hood (Silhouette Â BR-153002), which has a very minimal profile. I really love the look of a canopy-style hood Â however, they just arenÂt available in biscuit. So I was thinking of buying the hood in black (in particular, I like the Broan RP130 BL Pro Style Hood) and faux-finishing the exterior in an oil-rubbed bronze finish, which will match my cabinet knobs and fixtures in the kitchen). Am I crazy? Thanks to Breezygirl and Sochi. Yes, moving the cabinet next to fridge is better then current location. Cooking book is also a good suggestion, we don't have any cooking book at this moment :-) No pipes needed for the Sharp streamwave oven, it's steam, microwave oven and grill 3 in 1. That's Ok maybe it's me - it just took a couple of reads. Yes 18" would a fairly standard measurement for this - you wouldn't want to go a lot less or you won't be able to get a decent sized pot on the stove top (I've seen it - usually in before pics where they replaced a fan with an OTR and it looks odd). On the Panasonic the top strip comes forward to draw in air so if it were covered by the cab it might: 1, Scrape along the bottom of the cabinet asit opens. 2. It won't be able to draw in as much air in so it won't work properly - maybe not such a big issue if you are just using a charcoal filter Lots of criticism on here of OTR microwaves but I find my Mom's works quite well (hers is 400cfm which is more than adequate for an electric stove). I have to say I think having some ventilation in a kitchen is pretty important even with an electric cook top. Is it really not possible to vent outside?

This is not something I know much about, but I'm dealing with my range hood issues at the moment. Wouldnt it be possible to mount the 16" deep microhood into an 18" deep recess so that the front is mounted as recommended, with a filler in the back between the rear of the microwave and the wall? They definitely sell "trim" accessories online, although most of these are intended to fill a gap around the front of the appliance. I can't see a reason you couldn't mount the microwave to a 2" x 4" attached to your studs, then disguise the wood from below with a stainless steel trim kit. Google "otr microhood gap fillers." Good luck!

Do you mean "oven" or "range"? You use both terms. Oven = interior cavity that is heated up and food is placed inside to bake/roast/broil. Usually part of a range or separate as a "wall oven" Range = appliance with both surface cooking and an oven beneath the surface Sometimes people do refer to a range as an "oven", but since you used both terms, I wanted to be sure I know what you actually mean.
