need help deciding on dark or light countertop for vantiy?
Comments (1)I love what you've done so far. The marble makes it very timeless, but stacking the tiles as you did introduces a contemporary feeling that appeals to me. It seems you have a warm, dark floor tile, and everything else is really primarily white. Since you have texture on the floor (the "wood" grain) and on the walls (the "marble" veining), I would think you don't want to go too busy with your countertop material. I've had trouble finding granite that is internally consistent, except for some of the very dark granites, like absolute black or black galaxy, etc. And I don't think I would like that with your other choices. Other stones with more movement will clash with your marble. I know it's more costly, but I would go with a white or gray quartz (like Caesarstone Blizzard or Pebble), the white should go with the other whites you've already chosen and the gray should match the veining in your wall tile. If you vanity is small enough, you might be able to find a remnant of the quartz, which would make it less expensive. I look forward to seeing pics of your completed bathroom. Good luck!...See MoreHow did you decide on your white paint color for cabinets?
Comments (8)We used the Restoration Hardware color "Buttermilk" (although I'm sure they didn't get the paint there). It's a nice creamy off-white. The cabinet guys wanted to do a more glossy finish but I wanted it low sheen. Something glossier probably would have been easier to clean, but I like the more matte finish....See MoreHow did you decide...??
Comments (40)LOL!!! dedtired said "I hate my tile floor. Hate it. Pick anything but tile, unless you live with a herd of Great Danes." Well, I do, in fact, live with a herd of Great Danes, but that's not why I picked tile--although they do blend in beautifully with my walnut travertine. :) I decided against hardwood for two reasons. First, everything in my house is wood. Everything. Floors, walls, ceilings. Everything. I thought something else would be a welcome change. Second, I was convinced that I would not be able to match my old wood floors and didn't want to have something that didn't match. I now realized that matching probably wouldn't have been that difficult. I worried somewhat about the hardness, but it hasn't been a problem at all. We have fairly thick and cushy area rugs in the places where we stand a lot, so no back problems so far. The coldness is actually welcome here in Florida, so that was another non-problem for us. Here's my "herd of Great Danes" on my travertine tile floor......See MoreHow to decide between light and airy vs. dark and cozy for living room
Comments (31)Thanks, Monica. : ). Your room looks so homey, and very much like normal life around here. ; ) I was picturing a wall color more like your orange- rust colored pillow when I heard burnished pumpkin. Aimee, it could be partly a function of climate, which might be why I find this to be a challenging decision! That's very interesting that you find cozy colors to be more intimate. I find that appealing, rather than off-putting, but we seldom have "strangers" in our home, and if they are here, I usually want to help them feel welcome and as much a part of the family as possible. Annie, can I come over and stay at your house and see what it's like to live in warm and cozy for a week? : ). I've seen a few pictures of your home, and it looks very warm and inviting. Thanks Lisa. Yes, the little blue library is off our kitchen. The kitchen can just be seen to the right of it. The doorway to the living room is between the library (errr, the bathroom, to be more specific) and the kitchen. Could we possibly get away with a color like this in the living room? This was my absolute favorite room at the home show this year. It's a dark bluish green....See Morelilyfreak
