Skylight over a shower. Yay! or NAY!
Comments (12)Thanks flyleft. Speaking of dope, the reason I'm getting this installed at just the cost of the skylight itself is because my dope GC installed the skylight we had on the plans (that is over the vanity) as a fixed skylight even though we talked about the fact that operable is the only way to go in a bathroom. Anyway, the compromise was that he'd put in a SECOND skylight and put it over the shower, moving some plumbing and stuff to make it happen, and I'd pay for the skylight. If I went with an electrically operable one I'd have to pay to add the wiring and I just wasn't willing to go that far, we're so broke as it is. I agree though, those are the best which is why we've done one of those over the stairway. LIke you said, it's cool because when it rains it will shut automatically. I'm figuring the one in the shower will never be more than a few inches open, and if it rains, well, it's going into the shower! Thanks again....See Moreframeless shower- yay/nay?
Comments (7)Yay X 2. I have frameless shower installations in two bathrooms. Sure, both leaked a wee bit at first but after we had the installer back to take a look at them, both were fixed. No more leaking. One bathroom has now been in use for more than 2.5 years and the other just about two years. Both are used every day. No leaking. Just some extra caulk to arrest the problem at the site did the job. But, yes, do the frameless - it looks and works great....See Moreshower curtain with large grommet top; yay or nay?
Comments (8)Thanks pal, 2pups, and olychick....I think you all gave me some good ideas. I'm going to proceed making the outer, decorative curtain with the large grommets and keep the liner inside using the small rings with ball bearings on them. Right now we have two curtains attached to the same set of rings so it didn't occur to me that most people probably won't even close the decorative one. Its main purpose is to add some color to the space as well as to hide the rather unattractive liner. I love the idea of adding a second panel to the other side but this is a very small bathroom; almost no room between the edge of the shower and the toilet, so having a curtain draped there wouldn't be very practical. Thanks everyone; I'll post photos when it's done :)...See MoreKitchen Bridge Faucets: Yay or Nay?
Comments (54)" Do you think people using this forum are more thoughtful about function versus form" Yes, I think most people here, at least the "regulars" are function-first people. This does not mean that form/look is not important -- it just means that they consider function more important. In all honesty, it's easy to make or find something functional that looks nice; it's almost impossible to make something that's dysfunctional but looks nice functional without replacing the dysfunctional item (or design). My opinion...I hate side sprayers. I grew up with them, so I speak from a lot experience! But, as you can see from above, others like them -- so it's personal preference. I agree that bridge faucets look nice, especially in period Kitchens, but they are not for me b/c of the sprayer issue. I also like the fact that I can set a one-handle faucet to a temperature I like and then just turn it off with the temp setting till set...and I know that when I turn it back on, it will be at that same setting. This also shows you that functionality preferences can vary by person as well as looks/form. I really like the look and general function of my Kohler Vinnata, but over time I have realized that I do not like Kohler's spray/stream "button". Switching back & forth is not easy b/c you have to hit just the right spot -- and that "spot" for both options is quite small! It looks like the Kohler Artifact may have a different system for changing b/w spray & stream -- maybe Kohler realized their old design wasn't working as well as they hoped. Questions for those with the Artifact.... (1) Does it "remember" what type of spray/stream setting you used last? I.e., if you turn it off while it's on the "Berry Spray", will it still be on the "Berry Spray" when you turn it back on? That's a key feature for me! (2) Do the buttons work well? Do they last long? (I've already replaced the head of my Vinnata once b/c the "button" wore out -- it was free b/c of Kohler's lifetime guarantee, but I'd rather not have to do it!)...See Morezazfuzzroc
