What color curtains and towels for this bathroom?
Comments (10)Hi everyone! Thank you all So much for your replies and great ideas! (lukkiirish - your bathroom is beautiful!!) I talked them all over with DH. - He isn't a fan of window film - he wants to have a clear view of the outside in the daytime (we'll only close the curtains at night). - We do want to keep the shower curtain as the "star" of the bathroom, and agree that a medium to dark toned curtain will make the bathroom too dark, so that's out. - So, we're thinking that we'll keep the window curtains plain and will stick with either white or an ivory that matches the bottom of the shower curtain. (I do like the custom made etsy curtain idea, and will save that for our kitchen windows! Wish I was talented enough to do it myself!) As for towels, I found out that there are Matching towels for the shower curtain! I'm thinking of getting JUST the hand towels. (I tried some mockups of the striped bath towel but it seemed too busy and competed with the shower curtain): So, what do you think? White or Ivory curtains? And what color bath towels? (Or maybe I should get a few different color sets of towels to change it up every so often?) I made a crude mockup of the bathroom components with the vanity in a dark brown (I will check out SW Woodsy Brown - thanks, sheesharee!). The tub, toilet, baseboard and moulding are white. The shower tiles, floor tiles, vanity counter and bottom of the shower curtain are all a shade of ivory. Various curtain/bath towel options: Also - as you can see from the mockups, I'm thinking of using 2 cafe curtains to let in the most light possible. It's a 2nd floor bath, and we don't need the top of the window covered ever. But, we do need to cover the lower portion at night. Good idea? Thanks, again! (And sorry for the delayed reply! We had a busy weekend!)...See MoreWould this work for 'closet curtains'
Comments (10)Hi brendainnj: I have a couple of suggestions. I wouldn't cut them in half. They will always be gaping in the center. Put them right across and then you can access the closet from either end instead of the middle. I would mount a rod above the closet. Tension rods have a tendancy to slip, especially when the curtains are constantly being moved. They have nice wooden rods with wooden rings and clips that you can clip onto a straight piece of material. Another option is large grommets on the top of the curtains. Both would move easily on the rod. Since these curtains would hang straight you could use double bed sheets, but get a good quality so they have some body to them. I would also suggest you sew in some curtain weights in the hem. They will help with them hanging straight. If the sheets have a selvedge edge then cut off the selvedge and hem the sides or you'll end up with a wonky hem. A queen sheet is 90x102 and a double is 81x96...See MoreSewing advice needed - linen shower curtain
Comments (27)Not sure if this will be of any help considering all the great advice you've already gotten, but since I did this at my previous house, I thought I'd pipe up. I had a typical shower, tub enclosure, but wanted the curtain to fall to the floor. I also wanted the extra-long fabric curtain to be rather full, so I joined two widths. I believe I used a two inch header and used grommets with essentially the same spacing as used on commercial shower liners, so almost twice as many grommets as a liner would have. I hung both the curtain and the liner from a single shower rod using the old fashioned roller "rings." But while the curtain hung from all the rings (a ring for every grommet), the liner was only attached to every other ring. That way the liner was spread out flat when in use, but the curtain remained somewhat gathered. Wow. It's difficult to explain, but it worked great....See MoreYay or nay on 100% cotton tablecloths
Comments (40)Clearly a "serious " topic...........I think we should morph to sheet storage. . I make ironed packets. Which simply means you iron/fold store to the way it looks when it came out of a sheet set PACKAGE when new, All nicely ironed/ folded/ tucked into the folded top sheet and ready to go on a bed. By way of full disclosure, I only do this for one set, the other is ON my bed lol - the ironed set goes in the linen closet in a lidded sheet box............................. ( the only part of this I loathe, is that damn bottom sheet with its elastic corners %$#*& ) If you ask why I do it? Gotta say they stay darn wrinkle free all week, and the bliss of ironed sheets is sorta very WORTH IT . HAHAHHAHAAHA yes, I iron with "clean cotton" linen spray. Heavenly. ( tip of the day, it isn't too arduous as the BEST SHEETS? LL BEAN 400 count italian percale. For those that hate the iron? these come out of the dryer beautifully ready for the bed. )...See MoreOlychick
