Can't get motivated to start moving things back

Just did a huge kitchen reno which included other renos on our first floor. My DH and builder say I can start cleaning and moving things back. I am either unmotivated or am right. I say I don't want to do a single thing until everyone is out of my house and all things are truly done. They are still working here and there on things and the messes continue every day. I don't want to do the work twice. Once I get started, I want to go all the way to the end without having to stop for so and so who needs to put the final touches on something. Am I right or do I sound unmotivated?

Sounds good to me!! I moved in my house b/4 all of the punch list had been done. What a mess. It has taken me a long time to try to pull it all together.

How exciting for your reno!! It will be great fun to put everything back when your house is ready.

Johnatemps and I see to agree a lot. LOL!! I would feel likewise as you Orie. After the trials and tribulations of remodelling, putting things together again is the fun part. I'd want to enjoy that, not be working around *finishing up folk* and I surely wouldn't want to be doing stuff twice. Stick to your guns gal!

"I put a small amount of fuel directly into the air inlet which usually works. It hadn't been started in over one year, so that worked the first time." That's a bit confusing. Is it running now? That's a pretty old engine, (May 16, 1986) Typically when you have carb problems on these it's either the fuel pick up tube is clogged or the diaphragm is bad (Briggs part# 270026) It's located under the little side cover with 3-4 screws. Also under this cover are a couple "ports". IF you replace the diaphragm, it's a good idea to use some carb cleaner and force some carb cleaner through the ports with the "plastic straw". One should cause a bubbling sound in the tank and the other should blow through to the venturi area of the carb.

Don't worry, relax. I have only sowed 10 containers and they are with seeds that actually require, to the best of my research, long cold stratification period of 60+ days. Don't plan to sow any more containers until mid-February, those that require approx. 30-60 days cold stratification. Then another big batch of sowing in March - early April - perennials that don't require cold, annuals, and veggies! Here in zone 5, we have PLENTY of winter left. You are in a warmer zone, so maybe you best get going a bit earlier. MMQ, LOL at your DH's comment, and your response. :) It is SO true that I often pull out a bag of seeds and fuss over them, maybe check the count on a packet, read something on the label, do a little germination test, or not do much at all, and then put them back. And I 2nd the "hooray for re-used containers" - this relieves a lot of pressure, knowing that I've got over a hundred containers waiting to go, clean and most of them prepped! I am slowly saving a few more too.

I am assuming you are starting them in pots, and then planting them in the ground when it warms up? I'll tell you what I do, but I don't claim to be an expert. 1) When to start them indoors in Zone 4? Where to start them? (basement, porch, etc) I am in zone 4 WI, and usually don't start mine until mid April. (though I am starting some earlier this year) I usually put them in the ground the first week of June. Dahlias like it warm. So to wake up the tubers and get them growing I put them in trays of moist potting mix and place them on top of my fluorescent shop lights, (lights that I use for growing seedlings) Any warmer (70-75 degrees) spot will work. I do this to ensure the tuber is going to grow. I don't want to waste time and space if the tuber is a dud. 2) Planting medium and depth? After they have spouted - I pot them up. Any decent potting medium will work. I use a variation of "Al's 5-1-1" (see the container forum). I use 4" square biodegradeable pots to start them, so I can only plant them 3" deep (When they get planted outside the whole pots goes in 6" deep). I use smallish pots because I start close to 100 and they take a lot of space. A few really huge tubers get started in larger pots. 3) Do I water them? I moisten the potting mix well before it goes into the pots and then don't add any additional water until the sprout is above the soil. Occasionally there are really slow growing ones that need a little watering before then - but keep it light. 4) When do I move them to a location that receives more light? As soon as they poke up through the soil they need as much light as you can give them or they will be tall spindly weak plants. I put mine under fluorescent lights. Your 3 season room may be fine if it gets enough direct sun. 5) Which set of leaves do I pinch back when they begin growing? Top the plants after they have at least 3 sets of true leaves. Because I plant them deeper when they go outside, I measure 6" from the bottom before I start counting my sets of leaves. (often the first couple of sets are going to be buried) Have fun !

I have been resisting getting a rug or decor for my formal livingroom until the new floor is in. DH does not want to even look at rugs until the sofa is picked out. It is really hard to hold off but it is better in the end.

For you, I would not want to do anything until it is all done. That may mean staying on them until they get it done so you can clean and move back in. They may hurry because you are on them so much.

If you read my post about our huge fireplace hole in the wall ordeal you will see I understand your lack of motivation. The weather this time of year slows us down a lot. I say draw you line in the sand and wait until you are ready. We set a goal of being done by Christmas and now dh is talking about starting on it this weekend.

It takes a lot of energy to get through a renovation - mental, as well as physical.

My DH was pressing me this past weekend to start moving things out of our garage bays and up to our new build before the punch list was complete. I didn't want to be moving and cleaning things multiple times. I understand your resistance and agree with other posters to wait until the punch list is done.

Sorry, maybe it's just me, but I have a little trouble with any DH who says it's time for YOU to start cleaning...?

Thanks for the encouraging words! I did start to dust a bit only to return from work the next day and find a ton of dust back everywhere so... no more for now. Yes, It's only me cleaning for now as my DH just had a double hernia repair! He's out of commission for a few weeks.... and wouldn't you know it, his mom and dad are coming for Thanksgiving! I think I'll save some dusting for them!!
