Use a trashcan instead. It gives you the advantage of a bit of extra storage space and it's more stable if you have little people around or animals.
Cut a circle from some plywood with a jigsaw, sand the edges slightly, use velcro to attach the lid to the rim of the can, cover with the cloth.

If you need extra storage, one thing that may work for you is to get a trash container or round hamper and a wooden round from Home Depot.

We have one in our guest room and store fragile Christmas decorations in it.

wow, that's funny that you both mentioned the trash can. I would have never thought about that. I can't exactly picture it though. Are you talking about the larger rubbermaid type trash can most people keep in the garage. I don't really need extra storage, but I'm looking for the cheapest way to do this. I can actually buy round pieces of wood already cut out? Would that be in the lumbar section?

I checked BBB online and unfortanately the tallest size they show is 24". I can't believe how much cheaper it is than the one at Ballard. What am I saying, yes I can.

I've seen these at Michael's, Lowe's and Walmart. Very inexpensive and the glass topper is usually sold separately.

Yes............Round pre-cut wood is available at Home Depot somewhere down the molding isle ..They have cheaper ones at the store as well.These are made more to be shown..

Someone gave me the one above. I've seen them even at K-Mart but I don't think they had the large glass topper. I need to get one for mine. I think I remember seeing some at Target.

If it's going to be covered all the way to the ground you can probably add height.

To raise the height of my table like this, I found some precut blocks of wood 2 feet x 2 feet and approximately 1 inch thick at Lowes or Home Depot. I stacked two or three to the height I needed and placed the table on the blocks. Hh secured the table legs to the top block with an L bracket on each leg. I could have put a couple of screws in to hold the blocks together but I didn't.

forboystoo - I just looked at readytocover. Have you ever ordered from there? I did some measuring and realized the 30" diameter Ballard has is too wide for my space. Readytocover makes the tables in the height and diameter you need which is great. If I can't come up with a cheaper way to do this, I may order from them. I also noticed their mdf tables like the 1st picture I posted above is a lot cheaper than this one:

They even show a video of a guy standing on this one. Of course, I don't need one strong enough for someone to stand on, but it got me wondering if the mdf would be sturdy enough.

If you need a small one you should be able to find them no problem at a local store. I have two other small ones that measure 20" diameter with a height of 25". I think they're only around $14. Since you'll need to make them taller for your beside, I would go with Donna's suggestion.

Sorry I've never ordered from them. Their return policy seems fair and the items are American made.I searched for complaints on the co. and could not find any.I did find that they sell on Ebay as well and have 100% rating but only 9 people have rated them.

Joanne's has the tables with the glass also! Don't know about the height though. I think they are pretty much the same as the ones you see in MIchael's, BBB, Lowes etc. Laurie, have you seen the blog, Creations from my heart"? She is using the flax Bosporous and the plaid in her MBR also. She painted her walls BM Herbal Escape. She should be revealing it soon. Currently I am in love with the wallpaper she just used in her powder room makeover.

The round, wood (particle board?) tables I have....one of them I got at Walmart for around 12 bucks, I think.
The other I picked up at Big Lots for $7.97 or .95.

What I have in my parents' room is a galvanized trash can (Ho-De or Lowes, can't remember which) and a wood round that Mr. Amity cut from plywood....I use that for the top.
I made sure he cut the plywood round top just a bit bigger than the diameter of the galvanized can.

I also bought a round piece of glass for the top of the galvanized "table" at Walmart....very cheap too.

Inside the galvanized can we store supplies in case of earthquake (I am in S. Calif.) and that includes a small supply of all my parents' meds they need to take daily.
A few cans of cat and dog food and then the usual emergency supplies like bottled water, manual can opener, batteries, etc.
We go through the 'table' on New Years day to refresh the things that need refreshing.

Like another poster did, my neighbor liked the idea and she keeps her Christmas glass ornies in hers.

The galvanized cans come in several sizes so you can pick the size/height you need for your situation.

kmcg85 - I've never seen that blog, but I want her ceiling fan soooo bad. I've dreamed of having a chandelier in my bedroom, but living in Texas, I have to have my ceiling fan. Yikes, the price though. Even on ebay it's still expensive, but I've put it on my wish list in case I find myself with a little extra money one day. I can't wait to see how her bedroom turns out. Maybe it will give me some ideas on finishing mine. I actually want my kitchen to have the same feel as her bathroom with that French Country flair.

This is the bottom of the table, with the 2 ft x 2 ft blocks under the legs, and secured by L brackets. This was only a couple of inches, I think it would be harder to make it taller if it were much more.

Thank you so much. I couldn't picture where the L brackets were fastened. So, the 2 x 2's on the bottom are just stacked right? There not fastened together in any way?

Yes, the blocks are just stacked up, except for the top one that is fastened to the table legs.

I think I found mine at a fabric type store several years back. I had originally cut the legs down a bit, then found I needed some height back.
