Love the wallpaper! But I would not want that combination in a room because there is nothing that draws them together. Imagine wearing a light yellow blouse and a fabric skirt with that wallpaper print.

I have loads (is that a decorating term? :) ) of the blue throughout the room (rugs, vases, bowls, pillows, chair). Does that sway your opinion graywings? But you did call it yellow and I don't want yellow--present wall color is a very pale yellow. Blonde was used in a room where I work so I've seen it and yes, probably would call it yellow but for some reason I thought it would work. I'm just horrible at picking out paint color.

Teacats, I'm not sure I can look at that much blue even though I really like the color.

The adjoining, small front entryway is Ivoire maybe I should just continue with that. Yayagal, would that still get your vote?

I do not see any cream, ivory or yellow in the wallpaper but the fresh clean white walls would really work well with it!

I agree with teacats....but a little ivory would give a more classy look. The aqua accents will really help pull it together. I also LOVE that wallpaper! Lucious!

I would not, as others have said, use Blonde or anything that yellow. You haven’t told us what the flooring or furniture is like, which matters A LOT.

My first instinct, without knowing the other factors, is a very pale grey.

I'd have to see the rest of the stuff, but I do like those 2 together. It is a very retro combination but one that would work if everything else cooperated.

The house is a 150+ year old Cape with most of the old previously renovated out unfortunately. I feel that we should remain faithful to the age and style of the house itself but I can go nuts with my new-found change in style. You'll see the original moulding around the window in the living room picture which had been around three of the seven total windows in the room. We had moulding custom made for the remainder and for around the doors which enter into the room.

Looking at the mess in the dining room (wallpapering complete!) you can see that I have a crazy mix of styles going on. I've got my former neighbor's dining room set--I'm actively storing it for her--my mother's antique dishes (the blue on white Chelsea-ware is over 300 years old and passed down to the oldest daughter) and cranberry glass, the floors are stained very dark and you can see that picked up the in ottoman/table and legs of couch.

I'm represented in those dark floors, couch and tables, the crystal lamp you might be able to see on the floor in the dining room picture, the whacky IKEA chandelier, those JC Penney grommet top drapes on brushed steel rods--they don't carry them anymore so I can't link them--they are textured, mossy or dark avocado green with appliques circles on them in varying colors which can read yellow/gold/bronze, the cheapo area rug, the fig tree--there are many plants in the room--it's got southern, western and northern exposure--great light, the stool the plant's on is a decrepit relic from years ago in the kitchen. I'm also thrilled with the iron work rectangles art on the wall above the tv and yes, I even like the shiny green paint and steel handles I put on the credenza! The couch and love seat fabric is nubbly and multi-toned, the color is putty.

In the dining area I'm responsible for those bright green chairs and they belly up to the table with the others (please note the fabric I chose to recover the seats with!). There's a blue chair at the computer area which you can't see and other blue elements not in the photos.

If I could ditch everything and start again I'd probably be in a mid-century modern type phase. I adore the way Candice Olson designs. I don't want white, it reads too cold in this room--the dining room walls were white before the wallpaper. I want saturated color and the right gray could work--what is the right gray though? I thought the rug would pull in the ivoire--the blonde probably is too yellow.

I'm bad bad bad with choosing color. After much deliberation I'd choose a BM color and bring home the little pot and HATE it. I gave up and went with the ivoire I saw at work (entryway and stairs) (love it) and just thought the blonde would work; I'd seen them in entire rooms and they were good. Seeing the wallpaper finally going up I had the funny feeling that those colors really wouldn't work and in you all come to help me.

Okay. I am a little confused, because you first say you want to stay true to the style of the house, and then are furnishing and wallpapering in a very different style. There is nothing wrong with that, but I am just not sure where you are headed.

The living room and DR read very differently. In the LR I see a pretty cohesive color story, a similar feel in the furnishings (except for the acid green front on the credenza). In the DR you have chosen a crazy quilt mix of styles and patterns, and all of your own choices have a very yellow undertone. Not sure how the chair recover fabric relates to the green chairs or the wallpaper. Not sure how those things relate to your first comment about being true to the house.

So, again, nothing wrong, but I do think I would try to find a wall color that is very neutral, rather than anything that makes too much of a statement. Let the eclectic mix of furnishings and colors do that for you.

I am looking at the lightest color in the rug in the LR. Colors on the computer are deceptive, of course, but I think that BM Paperwhite (#1590) might be in the family, and that is where I would go with the walls.

As for the DR furniture you say you are ‘actively’ storing for someone. How long will it be there - and what is your plan when it is not? If it is a long term thing, I will be honest with you - I would change the seat fabric. Modern is fine, but I would try to find something that pulls together the colors in the LR and DR, especially the lime green. Maybe this one, but railroad it (turn it sideways to use it). I think railroaded it picks up the shape of the backs of the green chairs, but still has a more traditional feel to the print:

Clarification on the house thing. Permanent items are hopefully true to the home, the things that can be moved around and changed, including light fixtures don't have to be.

Thank you les917 for taking the time to study the rooms. I appreciate your suggestions on paint color and even for a new seat cover fabric...I'm not even going to try to defend my choice! Looking at the photo of the rug colors I don't think they are too far off from the real thing, on my monitor anyways.

The dining set isn't going anywhere any time soon. I don't have the vaguest idea what I'd choose to replace it, could be scary!
