I have one that was done by a guy I played tennis with. We went to one of his shows and he signed the back to us and wrote about his thoughts when he painted it.

No, but most of the art on our walls was personally signed BY me. LOL! I do oil paintings, seascapes and landscapes mostly, and my paintings are hung all over our house. We only have a few that weren't done by me.

When we were on our honeymoon in Bermuda, we bought a watercolor print from an artist and she signed it for us. I think she just wrote "Congratulations!" Of course I can't remember because that was 20 years ago... but I thought it was neat. We still have it hanging in our bedroom.

my dad painted alot in his retirement, so we have many of his paintings...alot of them personalized to us.
we also went to a dude ranch once on vacation and decided to have a local artist paint a huge family portrait of us...we sat for her as she took many photos and she worked on it for several months(sending us periodic emails), her husband built a frame for it and finally she mailed it to us, personalized briefly re: our vacation. we love it!

We've been to artist colonies and galleries, but never an art show. Except for one watercolor we commissioned of my father and our two youngest kids, all our art is either painted by hub or one of the kids, photos we took, or needlepoint I've done. One of the kids was a potter for a brief time, and we display and use a few of his things. Also, I consider the intricate/delicate embroidery that my grand- and great-grandmothers did a hundred years ago to be art, and we use it on tables, etc.

But....one of my favorite things is a sketch of my husband done by our dear friend who was the editorial cartoonist at the paper they both worked for. It is wonderful. And signed "To (hub), with warmest wishes, (artist's first name.)"
In the corner of the portrait is the artist's usual signature.

Yes; a photographer sent me a print (of a photo of me) that was also used on the cover of a book. The photographer was a long-ago boyfriend. I had planned to give the print to my husband as a gift, but the fond inscription made it impossible.

Before our house fire, most of our artwork was original from my mother-in-law, or other local artist. A few were personally signed. We lost most of the artwork, but have been fortunate that relatives have given us their art work from MIL.

One of our biggest losses was a personally signed P. Buckley Moss. It was one of her first works, and a low print count. Long since retired. It was personally signed to my MIL on the back of the painting.

Since the fire, we have been collected modest artwork, some original (mostly oils), some just prints. None have been personally signed, with the exception of another Buckley Moss, called The Sentry. It looks over us. See the print through the mirror. Though it doesn't look it, the size is 33 X 48. Really quite pretty. I love it because we have geese flying over our house two to three times a day. I feel like they are all looking out for our new house, and bring good luck.

The signature is on the glass, just below the print edge.

My sister is an artist and sells her pique-assiette creations made from old (often chipped & discarded) china.
She has made a couple for me . Along with her signature, she puts a fraction...the number 1 over the number 1. I believe to represent that it's one of a kind ("one of one").

Sort of. An old high school boyfriend's brother created a poster in the late 60's (see link below). My boyfriend watercolored it for me (can't imagine how long that took) and signed it "To Jane Of Love (his signature)"

He was killed in a car accident when I was 19 so this is very special to me. I have it hanging in my bedroom.

I do a lot of art for other people, and it never occurred to me to write something nice or clever on the back! I'll have to keep that in mind.

i met keith haring at an opening in the early '80s. he drew one of his babies for me and personalized it. since i was in college at the time i didn't bother doing anything with it. when i found it many years later i decided to have it framed. the man at the frame shop seemed a little too enthusiastic so i took it to a local frame-it-yourself where no one would touch it except me!
