corner windows with different drapery widths?

I have a pair of windows in the corner of my breakfast nook that I am having custom drapery panels made for, but I am struggling with how wide to have the panels made. The windows are roughly 70x80 and we have 10ft ceilings. The problem is that on one wall, I have 30 inches of wall space on either side of the window, & on the other, only 15 inches. I brought in a decorator who suggested making all of the panels 18" wide, hanging on rings with no pleats, they would hang roughly 9" wide. I am afraid that 10ft tall, 9" panels are going to look dinky, especially on the wall with more wall space. Would it look silly to put wider panels on the wall where I have more room, and keep the panels on the shorter wall more narrow?

A picture would be helpful.

If you have 15" of wall space then you should at least have 30" wide panels. Typically you want at least double...sometimes 2 1/2 or 3 times.

I'm assuming these are dummy panels and won't close to cover the window.

Yes, they will be non-functioning panels. I feel like my maximum allowable width on the right, is going to look to skimpy on the left window. I was thinking about doing 25" panels on the right window & wider panels (35-45Ã¢ÂÂ) on the window on the left, but not sure if it would look odd that the panels are different widths...

Very helpful thread. So based on what I'm reading, it seems custom is almost always required. But maybe I'm misunderstanding. For example, West Elm sells a standard curtain in 48" W. Assuming one chooses 2.5 for fullness, this means their standard width curtain covers 19.2" wide (48"/2.5=19.2"). So 2 of them (one on each side of the window) will cover a 20" wide window with 4" trim on either side and 4.5" rod overhang on either side with a 2.5 fullness. Collectively the 20" wide window with 4" trim on either side is 28". Then add 4.5" overhang for the rod on each side and we get 37" total. 37/2=19.5. Which is basically what their standard 48" W curtain covers at 2.5 fullness. That is one very small window. I'm struggling to see why the standard curtain would be made to cover such a tiny window. What am I missing?

Would a rod stick out enough to go over the molding and sill, or would curtains look kind of bent where they hang over the molding? Personally, I love plain white linen curtains like your last picture. Another option, light filtering shades, http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/70314592/ However, they don't offer complete privacy at night.

You might want to consider a valance over both the windows that treats these two window as one. That would hide the roller shades. You could have a this made in the same fabric as you have used for the panels in the other areas of the house. I would lean towards the roller shads instead of the panels in these two room since you have a small space to the side of the smaller window the panel may cover up more of the window then you want to.

Have you looked at the window treatment ideas thread?

I've posted some pics of window treatments that might be helpful.

First, you don't need panels at all. The windows look fine as is.

However if you want some treatment, you can consider valance only.

You can also do dummy side panels, and as I said, they should be at least double the width that they will hang.

In this case, I would treat the 2 windows the same but separately. So I d run a decorative rod across the top of each window in line with the top of the shade valance and I'd have the rods stick out about 12" beyond each window. I would order panels at least 30" wide so they can stack back and skim the edges of the windows.

I don't know what the decorator means by no pleats...what style did she have in mind? Grommets? Gathered?
