Window treatment ideas for corner windows

I would really appreciate any thoughts/suggestions on window treatments for our mountain home. We are building a home in the mountains and I am stuck on the dinning/kitchen corner windows. They are large windows (93" wx 99" tall--but have 2 windows within this total so inside mount and one headrail might be tricky) and during the day I do not want to obstruct the view at all however at night and when we are away, I want some type of covering. The walls will be creamy white with dark stained ceiling and beams so I gravitate toward the black curtain rod with white curtains look using a corner bracket to accomplish this. My only negative with this look is I'm not sure how I feel about having white drapes closed and how that looks from the outside. Considered solar style roller shades in a dark charcoal but wondered if these offered any privacy at night when lights were on inside. It's a family room and not a bedroom so total privacy isn't required but I don't want others to see fully inside at night either. Also saw a nice picture of woven woods mounted above the window along with white drapes to make the window appear larger and that would allow me to keep all views during the day. Would a rod stick out enough to go over the molding and sill, or would curtains look kind of bent where they hang over the molding?

Personally, I love plain white linen curtains like your last picture.

However, they don't offer complete privacy at night.

Thank you! I was planning on mounting the rod at least 6" above the window and to the sides as we have high enough ceilings so I think clearance wise we would be good. I like the IKEA suggestion and have the Ritva white curtains from them as they are 120" long--not sheer but not bulky so they won't take up too much room in the corner.

I would not use brown blinds.....they are very cavelike. You could use white cafe curtains on rings. They could be closed after dark but kept open during the day. They are a very sweet look, too.

I would absolutely not hang drapery from curtain panels that high. What you need to decide is what you need to control .... lighting, privacy, or both. If you don't need to cover the top windows due to either of those reasons, then just leave them as is and only focus on the lower windows. You can use window film to control lighting if you need to. But regardless of what you decide to do with window treatments, you need to paint all of the window trim a white color.

I'm wondering if there's another idea I'm not considering. Are you open to painting the room (including the ceiling) a dramatic, dark color? In my first house, my husband and I painted our vaulted master bedroom a deep cool green (kept the trim white), and we *loved* it. We were pleasantly surprised at how much it darkened the room at night, something we hadn't even considered, but were thrilled with. I also really like curtains, and if it were me, I'd mount a single rod over the tallest window, extending it 8"-12" past each flanking window. Color would depend on the look you were after. Thoughts? :-)

Hey there: the only problem with the existing shades is that they are black-out. The black-out fabric makes your corner dark and for privacy you have to fully close them. You don't want to put lipstick on a pig. Anything you do without replacing the existing shades will be only half-way.

Solar/Screen shades are a great solution and since they come in different opacities, you'll have no trouble at night with view-thru. I would suggest doing them in a creamy white, to match your paint color. If you did them in charcoal, the room would feel extremely dark when closed. Then, add some panels to finish the look!

Thank you! What opacity would you suggest to prevent too much view-through at night? I hadn't considered being inside the room while the shades were drawn--now I have something else to factor into my decision!

I do love the linen look, but given what I can see from the glimpse of the room the solar shades such as Window Treats recommends would look nice in the room. Avoid the cellular look..... feel it's past it's time.

Nice clean look from inside and out...
