Question about painting metal vents?
Comments (14)That is a beautiful fireplace (love the arch) and a very strong statement, so strong that it overwhelms the issue of the vents. Honestly, I had to LOOK for the vents in the photo. I see some on top of the raised hearth that are dark and already blend in very well (took awhile to see them), and something white or cream on the face of the raised hearth. Is that what you're wanting to paint? If so, I think I'd aim for the look of the one on the top of the hearth... sort of smooshy greys and blacks and just a very teensy bit of red. It would look better just looking, well, used, than looking like a brand new red painted vent, IMHO....See MorePainting the bright gold metal trim on glass fireplace doors
Comments (32)Here ya go Jewel. For comparison, behind it is my Emtek entry door lockset with flat black finish. The paint is covering very cheap shiny gold brass. I should have painted the wood as well, but will go back and do that later. This is 3 coats. Although it's flat black, it has a slight luster. It's not a dead black....See MoreFireplace painting—I think it’s wrong but can you help with why?
Comments (8)Many thanks for your input. @Tartanmeup , I am fairly sure the mantel is original to the house, although since we are the fourth owners I can’t be positive. I don’t think I have a large blue-green abstract, but I’ll see what else I might have. The oil by the blue chair has blue tones, but I think it might not be large enough @CDR Design, thanks for the mock up—I see what you mean about tying the colors in. Lost the blue chair & ottoman, really? (She says, sighing.). But it’s so comfortable & I thought I was being so clever in taking advantage of that nook that originally was mirrored with some glass shelves & stereo equipment below. So if I take the chair out, what do I do there? @Oaktonmom & @CDR Design, when you talk about squaring up the tables, are you talking about the gray Formica tables or the square cherry tables? I agree, except that the cherry end tables have drawers and if I snug in the couch & chairs at a 90 degree angle, I’ll be blocking the drawers. I’ll try to square them up & move them closer to the fireplace in the next couple of days & take another photo. @IdaClaire, since you suggested using the Montmartre painting elsewhere, I propped it up against the bed in the guest bedroom. My gut feeling is that it is too large for the space—what do you think? Right now I’ve got my grandmother’s quilt on the bed, and the living room lamps from my mother’s house by the side of the bed. I like the bed, but the other things can be replaced....See MorePainting Brick Fireplace Questions
Comments (7)@cat_ky Thank you for the input. Yeah, the room is TERRIBLE when it comes to light. The only window (a glass slider) faces N.E. so, natural light is pretty minimal. I have another thread going regarding how to go about figuring out the best way to get the room some more light. I've explored all the options on my own, but I really think I need to bring in a designer to weigh the various options vs. their costs and then go from there. This room is also open to the kitchen that will need a reface as the very least, so there's certainly plenty of work to do and to figure out to help out this space....See MoreUser
