I like all the elements. Just not together.

I don't like the lamps in front of the print. Though I do like the lamps on the buffet...and I like the print over the buffet--and I like the sepia prints flanking...I like the dogs.

Have you tried without the lamps, or do you need the light there?

I'm with nama, I don't care for the lamps blocking the sides of the print.

Is it too large to fit over the chair in the den?

I love the lamps on the buffet. The print over the sofa (looks like dogs?) has a dark border and is smaller, I think. Try swapping the paintings. The dogs over the buffet and the heron in it's place. Even though the lamps will still overlap the painting somewhat, I think the dark border will be more complimentary. Try it and let us see a new pic.
I love your style, I too move things all around constantly.:) I love your memorabilia cabinet as well.

I would rather see a picture light just over that gorgeous new print, than the two lamps on the table below it. Gorgeous puppies!

Hmmm, I like it - lamps and all - although ideally I think the lamps could be less bulky. I like the prints on either side rather than just on its own.

It would look better without the lamps or other pics next to it.

I like Joann's idea of swapping the heron print with the dog print. That will also have a dog lamp in forground with dog print on the wall. It looks like the blue heron color will coordinate with the blue in the sofa cushions which would be attractive as an accent color in your beautiful den.

I also love the memorabilia cabinet and the buffet is stunning.

Love the heron print. Love all your stuff. Will wait to see how you move things and for new photo when you think you are happy.

LOVE the heron print and the two flanking prints -- but the lamps could be slightly less bulky and a bit taller ..... (although do leave them there for the warm light for now ....)

You have such beautiful pieces to work with! The heron piece is just gorgeous, but the lamps in front of it are too busy and bulky there. They detract from your beautiful artwork. This is one place that a pair of skinny, small shaded buffet lamps would work perfectly. They'd light and bring the focus to the artwork, not jump up and down in front of it, waving and hollering , "Me! Me! Look at me!" like the ones you have are doing now ;^P

Love all your wonderful art! How about the Heron alone behind the wing back chair and the dog with birds in its place. Can't make out for sure if it is smaller than the heron to fit between the two great lamps, but the image is centered where the heron is full screen?

All elements are beautiful (including your babies.) However, the print is too large for the sideboard, and the sideboard is too small for wall and the lamps. Do you have a larger piece of furniture that could go on that wall?

PS - I like you round table, too. :)

NHB, I like your round table, too. I have enjoyed mine but wish I had looked around more and not gotten this one from Ethan Allen(way overpriced IMO) hence my paralysis on moving forward with this house!!

I 1st tried the Heron print over the chair but it didn't flow with the chair. I very luckily came upon the Leon Danchin pheasant & dogs print at an estate sale. Love it & then for my B-day my sis gave me a pair of gorgeous pheasants. She had not seen the print!!

I have tried Joann's idea - really loving the heron over the sofa!! I will post pics tomorrow. I then stacked my other 2 Danchin prints over the buffet - not 100% on this arrangement but well see......I would ideally love like an old alter table with an ottoman underneath.

the lamps are from an antique store - they were very reasonable until I had lamps made of them. Now, I don't know where to put them!! Another example of my new paralysis!!

I probably paid too much for my table, too. Found it on eBay at a reasonable price, but the shipping upped the price of the antique.

Can't wait to see what arranging you have done. I do love the sideboard and the lamps, but just don't think they complement each other. What do you have in the dining room? Could the lamps go in there?

You have some wonderful pieces. I agree with a lot said above and may repeat a few things.

The lamps are too big for the sideboard. Would they work in the MBR? I would center the sideboard on the wall, find a pair of tall skinny lamps or one medium size lamp (smaller than the new ones) and replace the heron picture with one that is taller, as opposed to wider. You could try the two on either side of the heron (one above the other) but this is not my first choice. I wouldn't go with a mirror there - not right for the area. A pair of chairs (one on either side of the sideboard) to fill in....and not "tiny" chairs. Some with weight - wooden legs/bottom/possibly arms and upholstered seat/back to soften the area.

From the pictures, it looks like the front door area is crowded. I would place the glass cabinet behind the wing chair in the LR. Hang the two pictures (on either side of heron) on that wall (one above the other) and find an interesting old umbrella stand that goes flat against the wall. It looks like there is a dresser or something at an angle in front of the other door? I would find another home for it elsewhere in the house. Find a pretty rug to finish off the foyer.

The buffet I moved into the den was from the DR - it is empty now.

Allison - that chest in the foyer is meant to go into the MB - I gave out yesterday!! But that is an interesting idea about placing it behind the wingback & one I have considered. I kinda think the piece looks kinda junky upon entry & like an entry to be simple.

Anywhoo...here are some pics. My sis has a great rustic buffet (it is huge) that she is not using.....hmmmmm...maybe I had better go hit old sis up!! My mom, sis & I switch stuff around quite a bit - so much fun:)

Now take two asprins....
What about moving the table down to the right just several inches (or a foot?) This way there is some breathing room between prints... Then putting the double dog head on the left and the two matching prints on the right (for a perfect marriage) Start by installing the big print so that the brown border is lined up with the bottom of the shade.

Hi Johna - I love your blue heron pic. I agree that the lamps are too large in front of it and you either need to switch out the pictures or the lamps. You have lots of options and beautiful things there to work with as well as some great suggestions here. You always work it out to where it looks awesome.

I would try the arrangement that joann submitted to see how that works; however, I do think that the lamps are too large. If that doesn't work, I would change out the lamps as Mimi suggested. Your home is lovely!

I also love the heron print over the sofa. I'd prefer to see the buffet back in the DR. It is such a beautiful piece and it looks like the demilune shape there works well to ease chair clearances. I also think Joann is on to something in the arrangement of wall art. There already is a lot of symmetry in your room and her suggestion flows more naturally and allows each picture a bit more breathing room to be seen and appreciated. I'd hate to see you move the memorabilia cabinet to your MB though--since the items seem to have sentiment to your entire family. If it does not work behind the wingback chair as Joann suggested, you could alternatively consider moving it to where the buffet is now.

You are so lucky to have a sister to trade furniture with. You home is so lovely and you have marvelous taste! Whatever you decide is going to turn out lovely.

I've always heard the larger or heavier to the eye picture goes on the top. That said, I would try Joann's sketch first.

lol at chest in foyer going to MBR. I must have missed that somehow. Just to be clear, the cabinet I was talking about moving behind the wing chair is the glass front/memorabilia cabinet, as valinsv called it.

I think centering the sideboard/buffet whatever on the wall will give you more space for the art. You can always flank it with straight chairs.

But I'm all about symmetry, so I'd keep the art arrangement in your longshot, but just put more space between the various pieces.

Just checking to see if jonatemp moved the cabinet yet behind the wingback--as Allison had suggested. So many great ideas, it's hard to keep track. Imagine, by now, she's taken the aspirin suggestion for the aching back.... This reminds me when I was trying to nail down the location for my piano.

My job & mommy job got in my way today! I did have a chance to move the glass cabinet behind the wingback. I didn't even take pics - it was so crammed looking/busy & the wingback covered a good portion of it.

Johna - I really prefer the glass cabinet in the den and I'd look for a chest for the entry. I like the height in the den and something about that door opening back on a glass cabinet kinda bothers me. Seems like it would get viewed more in the den also. I like grandma's coat rack :-)

I love the buffet in the foyer, in the first pic. When something is perfect, leave it alone. The memorabilia cabinet looks wonderful in the foyer -- across from the mirror and grandma's coat rack.
I also love the buffet where it is, with the two matching lamps. It's different and unique...and perfect too! Just play around with the prints a little more.

As for the dining room, have some fun shopping and looking for the perfect piece for that wall. If you want a buffet on that wall, maybe think about a longer one than the one in the foyer.

The rug, mirror and coat rack look great in the foyer, but like Mimi the thought of the door opening towards the glass front cabinet bothers me. I would put the mirror, coat rack and plant on the cabinet wall. Something smaller hanging on the mirror wall. It sounds like you are stuck on having a chest/piece of furniture in the foyer. If so, I would get a smaller chest of drawers and hang mirror or artwork over it. Or what about a small wall console - attaches to the wall, feet do not touch the floor? They usually have curved front and are shallow.

I was worried the cabinet might be too crowded behind the wing chair, but I bet it looks good in there. Where does the doorway lead in the photo (to the right of the wing chair)? If you pulled the wing chair over that direction a bit, does it crowd the path too much?

What is on the other wall in the sofa room - TV?

I'm with Mimi on this. I like the china cabinet in the family room, and love your foyer corner with grandmothers coat rack, the mirror and the plant.

Also, have you tried the sideboard in the foyer? If it doesn't work there, put it back in the dining room.

Oh yeah, I meant to also say that I do like that rug in the foyer. I can't believe you just pulled it out of your attic. My attic has junk!

I love the Heron prints so much. I love the rug in the foyer. I also love your hardwood floors. Finally, your doggies are adorable! What are their names. I like the lamps a lot but they bloc the picture so I agree that skinny ones would be better there. Let us know what you decide on and more pics please. Your home is beautiful and it is coming along nicely. any close up pics of your hardwood floors? Are the hickory?

Lynn, the HW are red oak #2. They have alot of grain & knots which works for me b/c of the dogs( big one is Sam-11yo, my 1st child, Pepper - shaggy black one & Salty - the little sh*t Tzu puppy, J/k) I have turned into that crazy dog lady!!

I had mentioned earlier I wasn't lovin' the glass cab in the foyer - too much visually when you first walk in. So, I will get out my handy dandy magic sliders & move it all back. Not only do the dogs think I am crazy, Dh does, too!! But he appreciates the effort just not when I ask him to help:)

I have wanted to add 2 cool - kinda funky stools to each side of the glass cab. I could pull them into the seating area when entertaining as xtra seats. Maybe some kind of animal print........hmmmmm

French doors on each side of ET opposite the sofa.

LOL on the attic. I am turning into a pack rat!! There's junk up there, too!!

I really really appreciate everyone's input on this.
Thought I would update with what I ended up doing....did I mention those Magic Sliders with the fabric coverings are the BEST!! They didn't leave any marks on the HW floors at all.

While it is not perfect - neither am I nor my life. I will never be on the cover of a magazine and neither will my home. So, while the 2 pics of dogs over the wingback bother me somewhat I am loving the heron over the couch - (thanks Joanne for the suggestion:):)
