I just looked at the "yellow room pictures" again...they have a bronze-ish frame, and yellows, whites, greens and creams in the pictures so I think they would also look good with the Baby Turtle. I of course will need to put them against the actual painted wall (or sample) to tell for sure, but it's good to know I might be able to use them either way. It will make DH happy if I don't have to go out and by all new things if I want to go with a whole new color scheme.

I had Baby Turtle years ago in my Denver LR and the most gorgeous complement color wise is a bright coral or watermelon...it is stunning! That with creamy tones can't be beat. I'm not sure I'd go with green tones with the drapes...might be a bit overkill and get a lil gloomy. Paint first and get the major things in the room...then see what the room needs. BT, like all colors, can be different in different exposures. But even then it's usually still pretty. Very beigy, warm based green.

I like the sound of your headboard...I made a tufted cream one a few years back. They're classic and very comfy...Scotchguard it a few times.

That sounds so nice! Warm and inviting, but also clean and simple. For drapes - I love Ikea's white linen panels - I hang them almost to the ceiling on a painted white rod (a cheapo one from Hobby Lobby or Target) - they are simple and bright, and give yummy linen texture- plus machine wash in cold and hang dry - which can't be beat... I sometimes add a simple bamboo shade on the window if I need more privacy or texture in the room. Good luck!

Sounds like a great plan without spending lots of money. I agree with other poster - don't use olive drapes on the Baby Turtle paint. Something light (neutral or beige) or the coral or watermelon mentioned above sounds good. I have BT in a small bath that doesn't get a lot of light and it is VERY murky green - pretty, but not with another green.

Can anyone suggest an olive that is more yellow than gray? I have a similar room that gets north east light, afraid BM will be too gray.

I had my LR painted BT w/ 3 sets of curtains to swap out. I always got wonderful comments here as well as on the RMS site. 2 of the sets were olive, 1 plain irridescent, 1 olive & black toile and 1 cream IKEA.

And yes - all images have BT walls.

Solid Olive - cream and white were my primary accents in flowers and textiles. It was so serene.

I'm very simple in my color combos. I would never be able to pull off coral or watermelon but I bet it is gorgeous!

I had to post b/c we are almost done builing our house and I have picked BT for the kids bathroom- they have only painted around the cabinets and their is no light in the room so i cant tell if i love the color. And the reason I laugh is b/c my plans for our guest bedroom is to do a queen upholstered headboard with cherry wood bed tables and dresser. Soooo where did you get your headboard. I was looking at restoration hardware but i think a bit too contemporary and very $$$... now i'm looking at ballard.com

Thanks everyone so far for the advice and pictures! Oh my, They're all so beautiful! I am amazed how the different colors in the window treatments and accents really changes the look of the BT on the wall! It seems there will be lots of options. I think as Jant advised, I'll wait until it's painted then experiment. Love the watermelon accents but as ttodd said, not sure I can pull it off.

I'm also concerned that using white or cream panels would be too much with the white beadboard & cream headboard. Love how it brightens the rooms in ttodd's and jant's pictures though!. And.. I am so jealous of all that furniture! All my room sit empty and cold so I'm drooling over all these cozy rooms. Thanks again for sharing. I'm such a visual person so they really help!

suzienj-- I will try to get a pic of my headboard with my cell phone. I got the idea from an inspiration photo of a room that was about the same size & layout as this room. I typically don't care for beds in front of windows but it worked in this room. Maybe the simplicity of the headboard sort of made it beign. That, and the panels that framed it. Whatever it was I didn't really notice (or at least focus on) the window being there.

I found the Headboard on CL. I was lucky. It was a couple years old, but frankly they could have passed it off as new to me. There wasn't a mark on it. They wanted $275, which I thought was too much for a used one, but I don't see these pop on CL very often and we were getting ready to leave for vacation so I emailed and asked if she still had it when we returned if she would consider a much lower offer. She said she would if I could pick it up within 2 days, so I offered 150 and she took it. She had it listed for a week with no real interest and she just wanted it gone. Before that I looked @ Restoration Hardware (couldn't afford, period.) Ballard, JCPenny- and Ebay, there are people that will make one out of your fabric, but they were all more than I wanted to spend on this room. The only reason I am doing anything in there at all is that I am going the cheapo route. LOL. My furniture budget (what there is of it) is being earmarked for Family room, living room & dining room, I am socking away a little here and there hoping to build it up enough to get started on one of the rooms! I'm anxious to do something though, and this was a logical place for me to start. The room won't get used much nor will be in plain site, so if it ends up looking like I only threw a couple hundred into it, it won't be a big deal. It's also a good way for me to reuse some things we bought to stage our old house, which if I sell I''m sure I will only gets pennies on the dollar. It gives me practice too!

Now, for a few more ideas to bounce off of you: The beadboard. Would it look better with the BT if I painted it BM Flowering Herb? The white seems so stark next to the BT sample I painted. Maybe the white will look great after the whole room is painted (the neon green is distracting me LOL) If not, should I paint the nightstands FH??

Also, I went to the True Value HW store to buy the sample BT, which was a shocking 16.99 a quart! Maybe it's not but it seemed high to me. I thought paint was cheaper than that! The paint lady suggested I have her make up the sample in True Value paint, at least just to see if I liked it, which was on sale @ 50% off, 6.00 for the quart. I did, and the color matched the sample perfectly. Should I be considering buying the TV brand paint on sale, or should I use the BM at 43.99 a gallon?? I'm not a paint person, so someone chime in here, please. I have no problem paying for the BM if there will be a difference at the end of the day.

Oh, and that blue room is gorgeous! I am not usually attracted to blue rooms, but I love that one! The head board looks more substantial than mine and it works well in that room!

Eeek...Flowering Herb lol! It is MINT GREEN...nothing like a paler shade of BT. A friend of mine thought BT might be too dark for her LR (I'd given her a quart to try) so she thought she'd go one shade lighter on the strip. She couldn't believe how minty it was....she did go with the BT and is thrilled with it.

I'd say white on the beadboard...cream whateva. That's the best look for it in almost any case I think. You just don't have anything in there yet so all is looking stark right now.

I had good luck with TV paints in the years ago. I don't think ANY interior paint is worth $44 per gal!

I have BT in my powder and laundry rooms and love this color. Everyone else seems to also b/c several visitors have called me later to ask me what color I used in the powder room!

I don't do much accessorizing in these rooms, but agree that contrast colors work better than anything with a green tinge. A plaster wall hanging that had a green tone blended right into the wall and I ended up taking it back, while my mahogany vanity and oil rubbed bronze hardware really complement the BT.

Back to the paint for a minute. Many "coverage" problems are operator errors lol! First problem is using the "recommended" roller nap for smooth walls...it doesn't hold any paint. I use a l/2- 5/8" nap for everything. Load it up heavily and start Xing...feather out and load up again. Don't press much on the roller...just lay it against the wall and roll. If you can HEAR the roller going you're either pressing too hard or running out of paint. I can do a red room over a pale tone in 1 l/2 coats...snort. My coral DR that you see peeking out was originally a pale cream/yellow. I started at 6am and was done by 10am in the coral. Only had to touch up a few places after it dried. Basically one coat. Saves a ton in $$ and your time!

Re: your drapes. If you wanted to set off cream drapes you could consider bordering the inside edge...pattered, diff color "etc".

OH~ I had no idea Flowering herb was minty. I've seen pictures, but didn't take away Mint from them. Doesn't look mint on the color swatch either, but I know how decieving they can be. I don't want minty green AT ALL.

Ok, my phone is the only access to a camera I have right now, so sorry for the inferior pics -- this is the room as it sits now. And here is a closer shot of the headboard. The headboard does lower and I plan on dropping it down quite a few inches. I also plan to swap out the ceiling fan as it seems too big for the room, and I just don't like it. My DH would prefer a fan smaller fan be added back in since he feels the upstairs is usually "stuffy" but since he won't be sleeping in there, I'm sure he'd be open to letting me put whatever I wanted there, if I insisted.

Thanks Juddgirl2. I thought it was in like new shape. Simple design. I had only come across one other on my CL search over a couple months, and it was weirdly tufted, very floral fabric that looked like it had built up dirt/grime. Sometimes I look at some CL items and the thought just grosses me out.

Anyone have any suggestions on colors to paint the nightstands? Remember, this is my first attempt, so nothing elaborate! ;)

Very very nice color! Yes, very neutral. I have lots and lots of tans & beiges in the main areas of the house. I don't care for the shades of them but it's not in the budget right now to repaint all over. I'm just getting anxious to work on something!

I think the headboard will "pop" a little better with the BT. I have no idea what bedding, but I imagine something simple.

Wow, I was expecting to see a very bright green in the guest room. This looks more minty. Very nice headboard you found and what a deal.
I'd leave the beadboard as is until after you have the whole room painted. It's really hard to tell, as you already mentioned, with the brighter green in there. What do the night tables look like that you have for this room? Are they stained wood? a little natural material always looks good in a room in my opinion. But then I'm a wood lover. You could always paint them to match the beadboard so they'll blend instead of take up visual space.
As for WTs, I think finding the right ones can make a difference in whether or not you can use a shade of green. AS you can see with TTodds photos she found the right shade.

I think the BT could be great- with a white duvet and then a brown or something throw on the end of the bed-- some wood /cherry end tables.... and then a woven shade.... and make sure you add some great textured throw pillows....

You are right, the "neon" description for the current paint probably wasn't the best way to describe it, but it isn't as minty as it appears in the pics either. It's very bright nonetheless!

Trust me, the nightstands look cheap as they are (I would take a pic but they are crammed in with other storage items in the garage) I'd never use them as is. They wanted 15 bucks each and I have never painted anything before so I thought if I ruined them I wouldnt be out much.

My original thought was to paint them black...but that was based on some pieces I've seen done in black including some bookcases that my mom had my SIL do for her in black. They all seem to come out looking good, so I thought it was a safe bet. That was before the headboard and paint color.

So, any more votes for cream? I saw some cabinets done in SW Soft Tan that looked creamy....any thoughts?

Not sure I've seen SW Tan, but if it's creamy it sounds good to me. I know what you mean about painting a yuck piece of furniture black and having it turn into a smashing piece. I've done that twice myself. It's absolutely amazing. It could work for your night tables if you like the style. I was only thinking of visual space when I mentioned matching them to whatever you choose to do with the beadboard. Even a couple shades darker than the beadboard would still give you that visual space.

Better late than never-- Here are pics of the freshly painted but not yet finished room... Cell phone pics and poor lighting, but you can see the difference. Also, here's the pics I am thinking of hanging in there. I'll tell ya, we DID paint it ourselves and we had to do a LOT of touchups, and it still doesn't look as good as I would prefer.... It's sure took a lot of time to try to perfect it! We tried to learn as we went, and will try in the other bedrooms but will probably leave the main areas of the house to professionals. All the difficulity came with the cut in & prep.

I love your paint color and the pictures. Painting is something you get better at the more you do...the prep is the hardest. Just think of all the $$ you saved by doing it yourself!

Thanks Karen. I got them at Home Goods. I used them in my former home for staging while on the market last year. I was hoping I would find a spot for them here!

We did (at least initially) feel a nice sense of satisfaction while working on it, however it quickly turned to frustration after the tape was removed and we saw the mess we had to fix. DH ended up spending a couple of days, on and off, with an artist brush trying to straighten out the lines. I felt so bad for him! He wanted it to be nice for me (he knows how I love the professional look!) and really tried to clean it up as best he could...I think he did a pretty good job!

That looks really pretty Jan! Tape...hardly ever use the stuff. Paint bleeds under it unless you brush away from the tape edge, not toward it...but you can't always do that. I find it easier to just use an artist brush (with steady hand lol!) right from the get go.

My guy insisted on taping all around the big cupboards I painted in our kitchen recently. He did a great job but bleeding still occurred. Would have been a LOT easier without it.

Now enjoy the fun part!

Jant- When I went to buy the baby turtle, the clerk are her husband happeded to be retired professional painters. She took me around and told me what (and what not to) buy. She suggested Frog tape, which I bought, and it seemed to work very well for bleed through. Our problem was not having it on perfectly applied in some areas. That, and DH somewhere along the line, decided masking tape was all he ever used before so he grabbed a roll of that.... You should have seen THOSE areas. UGH. Anyway, like I said...we learned a lot. ;) We'll spend a lot more time on prep-- and I think I'll read the tips & tricks over on the paint forum before next time!

Jan , That BT looks really nice in your room. I have it in my house too and love it.
This is a food proof tip for stopping the bleed through .
If you know the color of the trim, paint VERY lightly with that color over the tape. It will seal the tape so that any bleed through will be the color of the trim.

Then when you paint the wall color, it won't bleed through.

It doesn't take any time to do it. It probably adds about 10 minutes to the prep. time. You don't have to be all that carefull other than not to get the trim color too heavy.
