I'm going to the same part of Europe in June and have packed/unpacked my suitcase about 4 times already! :D The one good thing about fashions these days is that many fabrics are very thin so don't take a lot of space. I always find it difficult to pack light so have only bought things that don't take much space. I'm bringing 3 dressy outfits for symphony/dinner evenings as well as 3 outfits that can be dressed up or down. Daytime outfits will be pants (4-5 pair) and tops (one for each day). My pants, skirts, and jackets are neutral but the tops are every color of the rainbow. I couldn't wear all neutral for 2 weeks. Also bringing a sunhat but no umbrella altho that's often recommended. I'll either get wet or buy one there if necessary. Haven't definitely decided on shoes yet but will probably choose from what I have and bring 2-3 pair. I'm saving on weight by bringing only bare necessities in toiletries/make-up. I can shop there for anything I need. It will be fun to see what products are available. We're flying Lufthansa and Bac717 is correct about the smaller luggage sizes and weights. I'm not bringing my carry-on to my set but just a tote bag. It's my one concession to traveling light. My medium suitcase is within their guidelines but expands for any treasures I buy there. I weighed it when I had packed what I thought was enough for the trip and it only weighed 30 pounds and 50 is allowed. Good thing I'm not going in winter! Let's hope the weather is good in June and July!

that's country and weeds go with the territory, tho I had thought the plant/weed was intentional and growing up into the wheel... I didn't see the deer and didn't see what the deer was after but I'm curious... the leaves on the wheel seem to be the backside of the leaves..what's the other side look like? only going by the round spoke they're attached to.... I do feral cat rescue; my most recent aquisition (more than two years ago) had been severely injured by an animal (possibly a raccoon) in addition to having acquired a tumor in his inner ear by the time he appeared, half-dead, in my barn. I had the ear surgically debrided and was thinking he might eventually be a candidate for adopotion when one day I went out to the holding room and noticed what at first I thought was a rat-sized black animal one the floor. (Newly rescued ferals can't live inside with my permanent cats until they are tamed-down and ready for adoption, so they live in a special, heated, space in the former bulk-tank room.) I was stunned when I discovered that the black furry thing was actually two-thirds of his tail that had simply been so badly injured that it lost circulation and died and finally fell off. The stump required a bit more surgery to clean and close up, but he healed quite nicely and now he's my all-black, chatterbox "bob" cat. I hope your cat was previously vaccinated for rabies and that the vet has given him a booster if there's any chance he might have been injured in a fight with a wild animal. If you can figure out how to turn Ralphie into an indoor cat, you will be doing him - and yourself and your wallet - a big favor. You can also consider having the cats out every day, but under your supervision. They will adapt quite well to a regimen like that. Some of mine go out like that. I live on a farm, way off the road, but there are still too many dangerous things about to allow complete freedom, even for these formerly wild-living cats. When I first moved out here almost 25 years ago I inherited a gang of about 30 barn cats who lived outdoors in the dairy barns. The attrition for even spayed/neutered, well looked-after, quite beloved outdoor barn cats was too high for me. I lost several to coyotes, one to an owl, all of the remainder became FIV+ from exposure to feral cats, some simply disappeared and only a few of those, even after weeks of desperate searching, were ever found alive again, and then there was a steady run of fights with raccoons, porcupines, stray dogs, etc. Not to mention the constant need for Frontline to ward off ticks being brought into the house. After few years of regular tragedies - and huge vet bills - I switched the remaining ones to all-indoor living and for that reason even though they had FIV, they lived to be 15-18 years old. After all of the first lot had died I decided that I wouldn't consider keeping any more outdoor cats. I have contemplated fencing off about 6 or 8 acres immediately around the house and barns, but even then I think that letting them out w/o observation would always be a risk as cats are so agile and a fence would be little barrier unless it was capped. Now I walk with them in smaller groups, or have a couple out with me when I'm in the gardens or barns. But I no longer just turn 'em loose to go where they will. Cats are also very hard on the native populations of wild birds and small mammals and reptiles and amphibians. While it's a benefit to me, an avid gardener, to have them catch voles all day long, it comes at the price of them also killing snakes, frogs, birds, etc., which is too much by-catch for me. Cats, after all, are a human-modulated, non-native species. I'm sorry everyones' tempers were frayed during the vet visit. However I think your assumption is incorrect that anyone with more than a few cats is by definition a hoarder. I happen to have 10 indoor cats at present, all excellently cared-for, well-vetted, all spayed or neutered, etc. In my case I will take animals that can't be adopted for physical or behavioral reasons (for instance I have an inveterate and serious biter who wouldn't be alive today if I wasn't willing to handle him, albeit very carefully). I am definitely NOT a hoarder, which to me is someone who takes in more cats than they can care for, particularly when they allow them to breed unchecked. Cats who appear here are always neutered or spayed straight away. I hope your cat will continue to recover with no setbacks. Lack of a tail has not slowed down my guy. One of the things pets teach us is to see beyond the surface of things. Ralphie is still Ralphie; you'll see. L.

We have a wonderful poster here whose name is Catknap. She has recently relocated from Cal. to Tenn or Kentucky (my brain is dead). I have been watching for her to get back online, and saw her on another post. I did a call-out, because I am so glad that she is back!

Well, how fun it was to see this post! We did move from So. California to KY - we have been in the house almost 2 weeks but have been doing workon the house for nearly a month - it is a fixer with charm - a 3 story (walk-out basement) classic cape cod - we are just loving KY. I will post some befoe and after pictures soon.

It is so nice to know that thare are friends here who remember me - I'll be stopping by whenever I can.

What a beautiful part of the country you are in! You may have a harder time and shorter season with your roses, but oh my, the things you can now grow...peonies, for one! And oh those autumn leaves. We'll expect progress pics, ya know:>) I loved your CM garden and can only imagine all you'll do in your big Ky. garden-to-be.! Is there a good foundation or a blank canvas? Stay in touch:>)

Catknap! You moved from that fantastic yard and home? Do I have to tell you what an inspiration your pics are to me? (And...let's be honest...some of them depress me because I don't know if I have the talent to pull the look together myself. GRIN)

Best wishes in the new place. Can't wait to see what you do there. I know I'll be adding those pics to my inspiration file as well.

Oh my it is really so good to see all my friends! Thank you so much for your kind words....we are in Prospect, KY - a burb of Louisville - if you drive out of our subdivision and turn right, you are in horse country with a few minutes - turn left and you are at the mall in 10 minutes - we are blown away by the beauty.

We do have a large cottage garden that has been sadly neglected but has wonderful bones...I found a secret upper garden that is accessed from the side door of the large screened in porch - there is a gate at the end of the garden and old stone steps that lead down to the lower cottage gardens - there is a wonderful large brick wall covered with so much growth - oh tons of work my friends but good garden bones they are - I will tackle that garden next spring - right now I have other fish to fry (the fixer-upper house, LOL).......I had forgotten what a nice place the Gardenweb Decoracting Forum can be - thanks for the warm welcome home!

Catt, I thought about you as we drove through Louisville on a recent trip home to northern Indiana. Dh & I are tossing around retirement ideas ... KY, TN, maybe even Austin, TX. Not sure about a northern KY winter though, but it sure is gorgeous country! Good to see you back!!!
