I think you should definitely paint the door and a color, not brown. I think the dark sage green would be nice. I can't tell from my screen what color you are holding up.

Perhaps consider painting the outside trim of the white door in white too! This move would create a visually larger front door ....

Also -- perhaps add some interest around the door itself -- maybe a long mirror to the left?

The brown I'm holding up has a slight mauve tone. I'd agree its not coming up too well here.

Painting the trim to get a larger door is actually a good idea. I'd have a hard time painting the brand new oak trim though as it runs throughout the home. Still contemplating it though as it wouldn't "frame" the door so much. I like that my windows aren't framed with trim. They just have a sill and it opens it up.

If you paint the oak molding on the door, it will no longer match the molding on the closet door, right next to it, as well as the rest of the house. Bad move. I don't understand the advantage of having a visually bigger door without the matching trim.

Maybe you can achieve a similar result by painting the door a color from the trim. A tan with a ruddy color to it, kind of a base color of the trim. Then the other colors of the trim will act as the 'visually bigger' part that you want.

I love white for the door, but I would do Gallery Glass on the two sidelight windows, for privacy.

I'm still pondering leaving it white. I brought back a bunch of paint chips and none of them appealed to me. Perhaps I should try a color closer to the trim to see what that looks like.

I like the white door. I agree with teacats that maybe some visusal interest on the walls. Also maybe a more pattered rug.
Dressing the sidelights can also add interest.
