Ski House Basement -- 2nd update and request for help!

Background is tat we lost our wonderful tenant to a boyfriend and bigger digs, so we have decided at least temporarily to reclaim, redo and redecorate the basement apartment. A/k/a "caretaker apartment" per zoning (although long-term rental was a permissible use.

The walls and floors are finished and we even have a new boiler for the entire house. Our major furniture pieces arrived this week. With all bones in place it is now time to accessorize and I am a bit paralyzed by that, especially 1000 miles away. The basement will be used as a rec room and the bedroom will be a guest room. So . . . Her is where we are and I need help on how to accessorize and art.

The color on the walks is much more grey than it appears. These pictures whew taken right before sunset with the light streaming in, this is slighlt better

The orange table at the right end of the couch will find a better home and I just ordered this lamp for that space:

As you can see we really are nowhere with accessories and art and looking for all suggestions. help please!

The second part is the bedroom. Right now it is bright and hard, but bland. The bed cover is tangerine and the dresser and night stands are dark navy:

I really need to soften up this room -- I am thinking crisp white sheets trimmed in a geometric blue (light of navy?) and. Lighter blue throw or blanket across the foot of the bed. Then I'm looking at this mirror and this pillow. What else do you suggest? Here is a pillow I have ordered for Thad bedroom {{!gwi}}

What do you think? Thanks for any input! I' adrift. I know we need to accessorize, but I am totally at a loss

I would go crazy with a ski theme.

I love your color choices and would repeat the turquoise from the pillow you ordered, perhaps some window treatment. Personally, I love these IKEA curtains. They also have matching pillowsIKEA Sanela

Also, a floor lamp in the corner of the sectional.
And perhaps some photos of the mountains or maybe
skiing posters.

ok, my pkg came in, it's SO AWESOME!!!! i got gloves withe the rubber thingi on the bottom (yay) and they fit a little loose, so i have moving room!! plum trees lily of the valleys-white caladiums sweet williams gee i knew i'd forget, varigated hosta unkown plant but its a beauty black raspberry and if i forgot any, she could tell ya, oh my vic! thank you so very much!! i can't wait till them tree's get taller!! then them kids can play in them like i did when i was little, that would be so fun!! i loved them all!! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!! i planted yesterday in our slow soft rain we've been having for like 3 day's now. but my flower beds are filling up with water! i hope my seeds don't go down hill!! it says your supposed to dig them up, but i never knew that til later, but i live in zone 5 and mine came back and i don't mulch. YET!!! it's on my list of do's when my beds get their flowers how i want them. LOL yesterday i went creek digging and found a beautiful purplish looking flower almost like a monarda or something and monarchs were all over them, so i brought a few home, i love butterfly's!!i'm taking my gloves next time, i found some wild strawberry's, i love wild stuff!! hey hazel can't wait, you been yammerin on forever about this, so we've been sitting on pins and needles waiting now get on with it!! LOL na, i'm just feeling spunky for a bit today, LOL first time in a while, LOL i just found out we won't be losing out on the rest of our grant afterall!! we can use it in appliances and stuff. cool!! in 3 more years i'm gonna be very picky!! and not choose any fast talking contractor!! Thanks Palimpsest for blowing it up and commenting and to other for their comments. I've been away but got together w/ and architect last week. Surprised at the estimate - $6000 for design/plans/working w/ city - permits. Is that in the range for a basic second floor addition to a 750sq ft house? Palimpsest - both 1st floor windows will be partially overshadowed by a front porch with sloping roof (this roof helps disguise the brick to siding transition and "heavy" look of the second floor being bigger than the first (taller due to running floor joists over existing trusses (sorry if my terms are wrong).

Annette, thanks for the heads up :-) There is 2'11" from the window trim to the hallway tile. The window is a vertical slider, right to left. On the DW between the sink and the cooktop issue, I wonder if that would be so problematic if I had that peninsula with an additional, prep sink in it? I would think it would then be an asset to have the DW close to the cooktop for direct to DW 'clean as you go' flow? Stuff comes out of prep bowls/plates into the frypan/pot and the bowl is then just dropped in the DW( no doubt real cooks are going to find this sentence hilarious!) If water is needed while the DW is being loaded by someone from the clean-up sink, no problem for the cook to just pivot around to the prep sink?

I would try to stay with a mix of modern/contemporary and vintage/ironic.

How's this for vintage ironic? (Ironically, my daughter sent this pic to me last week because we are thinking about framing some of DH's collection of album covers as art for the bedroom. He has some good looking ones and actually agreed.)

Love the ski furniture, but DD requested that we not go with a ski theme. she's a big skier, but I guess that when you live in a ski resort town and work for the ski corp, there is sort of an overload factor. So we're leaning a bit more nature themed with a twist. At various times we've seen moose, elk, deer, fox and lots of bear behind the house!

Fur (faux) is a definite must!

Keep the suggestions coming!

For now you need large colorful inexpensive artwork. Stretching colorful fabric over 1x2 frames would be one way to get it.

I understand her wanting to get away from the incessant "ski theme", but if you can find any of these posters, I think she'll forgive you. We have them framed and hanging in the ski patrol clinic.

oooh, I have the perfect suggestion for you after you mentioned the vinyl records. Our guest house has become a hi-fi listening room and we found the frames in the link below. Pretty cheap and they use 2 screws each to go up on the wall. You keep the records in the cover and pop them into the frames. We have a large display on one wall. Everyone who sees it, specially if they grew up with vinyl, thinks it is amazing.
