Help with color of ceiling fan

I presently have a white ceiling fan with lights in my family room. I had bought this fan in white because I wanted it to blend into the color of the ceiling. I have since redecorated this room. The ceiling is still white, though the walls are a champagne color and the flooring is dark wood, almost cherry. There is a entertainment unit and bar which also have dark wood. In looking at the fans on different web sites I am getting the impression that a plain white fan is not very current. SO I am asking should I switch to a dark fan? If I do I imagin I will get used to it, on the other hand, I really do not want it to be a focal point. Either way I will keep the style pretty simple. Would appreciate your thought on this matter. Thanks Much.

Yes, change it out to a dark simple style that is in the same color family as the other wood furniture in the room. You will like it so much better!

Here's an example of what I mean by not looking generic! http://www.casablancafanco.com/product/period_decor/marrakesh/marrakesh_89073m_hi.html This is the casablanca marrakesh fan. In sTandard configuration it's listed as 14" from ceiling to the lowest part of the fan. I've seen low profile kits (shorter installation poles) advertised, I wonder if this might work if I could get a fan like this to mount closer to the ceiling. BTW, I know I'll lose some effectiveness, but now I have have no fan, so it can't be any worse!

I assume the ceiling is white. Get a white fan, with no light. The rest of the room doesn't sound like it needs "driftwood" ............or that the fan should be much of a decorative focal point. Most of the time they need not be : )

I think white ones would be good in the kitchen the wood might be good but it might feel more heavy I did like the wood ones in the living room the white would be okay if it even had some other color in it like let's say it had some other wood colors that would be good but it can be plain white or an off-white

I put this one in our study because the desk is a dark cherry. It's the first room you see when you walk in the front door, and everyone who comes in comments on the fan. It moves the air like nobody's business too!

And in our bedroom I did a flat white fan (vs one that has a shine) without any lights. It just blends away. Again, a construction photo.

I think you can use white and still have them look good. It just depends on the room. In my bedroom a dark fan would have looked odd. That's how the one in the study ended up there...it was bought for the bedroom.

I've just changed from a wood fan to a plain white one in our family room and the wood fan did stand out and caught your attention, but I do prefer the white one now because it does just blend into the ceiling and you don't even really notice it. I think it depends on whether you want it to be a noticeable feature or not.
