Oh, heck no, and I don't think that they need to be similar in tone, either... contrast is good, lest you get the "tried to match and missed" look, which is very much not good. That goes double if you're furnishing with antiques/vintage items. I have a pretty small living room (approx 12x16 if we're being optimistic!) and not one thing matches anything else. The coffee table is nutmeg-stained maple, rectangular with porringer corners and big drawers, sort of country-Victorian-inspired. One side table is a 30" round tea table in cherry-stained quartersawn oak in typical reproduction Mission style. Another is a small antique Arts & Crafts period 16" round tabouret table, quartersawn oak in a chocolatey brown finish (fumed oak). The last is a little bitty 12" square blonde ashwood table with slightly curvy legs, rather more modern than the other items although I'm keeping my eyes peeled for a certain style of mahogany or walnut Victorian bookstand end table to come along in-budget (aka cheap LOL). I have a large backless upholstered bench that's too modern in style for this old house and is on my list of things to sell - once I do I plan to replace it with a wing chair and I think the small copper-topped fumed-oak trestle coffee table would fit underneath the window next to where the chair would go. What makes everything play nicely together is that it's all from (or reproduced from) the same time period, the turn of the 19th-20th century.

Cut with the good side UP, so the blade is cutting down into the material. You will probably get some blow out on the back side but you said you only need one good side. Also I would raise the blade as high as it goes this will help with the top side cut. If you need both sides good, raise the blade a 1/16" of an inch above the saw table and run the panel through then raise the blade and cut as above. This may require removing the guard, so only do this if necessary. Typically a triple chip or a hollow ground balde is used. Carbide also. If you don't want to use the table saw, then I would cut oversize with the circular saw, then clamp a straight edge and using the router with a double flute straight bit cut it to the proper size.

It's crazy how one thing leads to another and then another and before you know it, this project gets totally out of hand and so confusing LOL!! Your place is beautiful! Love your couch and chairs. I agree with so many of the posts, except for Cpaul!! No need to be rude! A larger picture rather than a gallery above the couch would have more punch, IMO and maybe do the picture gallery over the sideboard. Coffee table you picked will also look great. I would also recommend trying to square off the chairs instead of having them at an angle as someone suggested. Curious to see how that would look, I would love to see some cushions on the couch to compliment the colour of the chairs. Also, I love your cabinet/sideboard but I would glam it up with crystal knobs and also add some glitz items on the top, such as a white vase, glass candle holders or some white/grey small pots with succulents, maybe in a tray. I also like the idea suggested of heavier/fuller curtains. If you're a sewer, you could line them to give them more weight. Of course, nothing is carved in stone. At the end of the day, it's your place and so long as you love it that's all that matters. Also, enjoy the process!! Looking forward to more pics.
