What do you think of these slipcovered sofas on CL

My cousin who lives 3 hours away from me is looking for 2 slipcovered sofas. I found these on CL and I could purchase them for her. She's out of the country for the next 2 weeks w/o internet. She's of no help only saying she has complete trust in my choices yikes!! One set is pure white and the other is off-white. My cousin is a single mom with one 12 year old DD and no pets. She likes my white slipcovered sofas but also loves earthy colors. She pretty much has a blank slate so she could go with either style.

They are rather formal looking as far as the material, does she like that type of furniture? You would have to sit on the couches to see how they sit and how the springs are, they could be too deep or something.

midao, they're very similar so it really does come down to which is more comfortable and seemingly better constructed. As far as looks, she'll probably be delighted with either. Hope it's not too inconvenient to check out IRL.

I haven't had a chance to update this til now (had periodontal surgery on Friday, and have been pretty much out of it since then) - but did want to say that we got the CL piece, it's in place, and I really like it! Since we didn't have anywhere else to use, or even store, the old painted piece, we put it at the curb Friday evening (a bit reluctantly on my part -- after all, it was one of the first things I "created" when we moved into this house about six years ago). But it was picked up within about an hour, so I hope that it's making somebody else happy now. :-) DH doesn't want me to paint this piece, but I keep envisioning it in some kind of stain -- maybe a turquoise or red -- that would give it some color while still allowing it to look like a wooden stained piece. I'm not even sure if such a treatment exists, but I'm thinking it probably does -- I just don't know what to call it! Anyway, here are new pics. Oh, and it holds a lot of stuff too. With the exception of a couple of pair of presently unused 2" blinds, which were stored in the old piece, the new piece holds everything that I had stored in the other chest. I do wish it didn't have to be sandwiched in by the washer and dryer, but my hands are pretty much tied in that regard. ;-) (Must apologize for dark pictures again! I dunno what I'm doing wrong with the camera ...)

Well the one leather couch may look in good shape but it is not. :( it is really disgusting AND had huge rips in it. It was not high quality and was a bad 2 weeks before DS was born purchase. :( You all are making me go conservative :( I think that given the kids it is probably the right thing. I have to admit with 4 boys and DH there is just probably no hope for a floral sofa to survive as much as I want one. I will not be replacing the curtains, we like them. That rug ended up being to small when I measured so I did not even go see it. I found this on CL. I am thinking I might put it in my basement and then bring the brown couch I have down there up to the family room. I love that couch. DH says It is strange to do that to the au pair, but I don' t know. I think this is a nice set.... What do you all think of it?

I think the white one may be worth it. The other looks like it needs reupholstering and has pressed cane (ask for pics of the *back* of the back). The white one may be woven cane (easy to fix if there is a hole). It also has more interesting arms. I would not put either one outside. I used to have one like that (with matching armchair that I was too poor to have springs redone). I couldn't sell them - antique dealer said they were 70's French Provincial even though I knew they were a good 50 yrs older than that knowing the lady (house) my parents bought them from. The wood was dyed, not stained. I ended up giving them to Salvation Army when DD was born and we needed to move (her current) antique bedroom set to the room where we had the caned set. The back of the couch was not comfy, and moved too much. It *was* pretty, though.

Karen, if you like it and it's in as good of shape as they say I'd certainly at least look at it. However I'd offer way less for it. I don't care what shape it's in, I don't think it's worth the price their asking. But then I don't know what things are going for in your area. I'd email them and ask for pictures of any tags and for the brand name. And some larger photos than what you see in the ad. Here is a link that might be useful: CL Sofa

The first set looks nice and far more stylish to me (forgot to look at the price). The second might be comfy but looks kind of lumpy and tired : ( Maybe in a different setting and a little tlc.

I like the first set better, and it seems they would be in better condition if they were only used to stage a model home. I have sat on some of the furniture in model homes and they're not always too comfortable, so I guess it would depend on how they feel.

I like the first set. You can't go wrong with a white slipcover as if it gets dirty you can always wash and bleach it. If she'd prefer a creamy color, perhaps she could do a tea wash? Don't care much for the second one.

The first ones have a tight back and are rather large - does she have room for two 91" couches in her space?

The second set has the loose pillows for a back, which I personally hate. You constantly have to adjust them to sit comfortably, and they always look messy once someone has been sitting there.

Of the two, I guess I would do the first. I would of course want to see how comfy they are, but also check to be sure they are in top condition structurally. Because they have been shlepped around for use in model homes, they may not have been treated all that well in the process.

Hi all,

I sent an email to both asking for close up pictures. The second set definitely looks tired. My cousin has room in her FR for 2 large couches. I'm partial to the white set since they look like they're in better shape. I'll post the close up pictures of each once I get them.

On looks alone, I prefer the first set. She can still have her earth tones in paint and pillows, etc.

I have a white couch and a 5 year old and I would love to have slipcovers!!

OK, I emailed these sellers yesterday and I still haven't received a response. What's up? I had the same thing happen last week. I've been looking for these Pottery Barn lampshades for the past year and finally found them on CL. I emailed the seller, they responded but then when I asked for more pics they never responded. I then emailed them asking if I could see them in person and still no response. If they sold them why not just reply there're no longer available. I really wanted the lampshades since PB no longer carries them.

What do you think of these slipcovered sofas on CL
