Most realistic wood lookalike faux tile.

I'm looking for realistic wood lookalike faux tile. I know there are some good ones out there, but need to narrow my choices down before ordering samples. One sample will not show me how much variation though.

The tile needs to have some variation tile to tile and available in a long and narrow format. Also needs to be rectified with little to no warpage. The standard .5% would be 1/8" in 24" which would create lippage and require wider grout lines so Im hoping for less than this.

If you've used or installed any wood faux tile, Id like to hear what you have used or seen and your impressions.

Sorry that I do not remember who made mine it is over fifteen years. But, when shopping, I looked down and saw a section of it on the floor. This tile shop had the entire space used for examples of their tiles. I can tell you that it looked exactly like it did when installed. I do not think that you would mistake mine for wood, but it has gotten many complements.(And does look like planks)
The samples that I have seem now look even more realastic. These tiles met my needs for a high traffic room right off the garage.

thanks ellendi. Wish you could remember who made it. Maybe if you gave me a size it could narrow it down.

I've inherited an older mining company CJB. (cracker jack box). Perusing the reno posts for great ideas. My (only) bath, now, looks exactly like your "old bath". It is SO small that you could expect to s/s/s in one fluid motion. It's hideous! My budget is meager, by comparison, but I CAN do this by myself! I love that you moved the door,same fix could do wonders here, with the transom to add light to the hallway, Genius! Believe me, mine's not an 1890's Victorian, but EXACTLY the same problems you encountered, right down to the window in the middle of the bath! Love everything about the way you chose to redo it. Love the DIY medicine cabs, they look so polished! Moving the sink, might be the only thing I need to move! Just FABULOUS! My inspiration bathroom! I don't need to gut mine, but, could expect the same results, with minimal renovations. Thank you so much for sharing!

An Electric fireplace with a realistic flame???

teambrant, what did you end up doing? I visited a fireplace retailer yesterday and they happened to have a rep in with a new halographic flame electric fireplace. I was impressed. He said it was $1199 (I think) installed with a remote and a heat function. I was standing at least 2-3 feet away and could feel the heat but it wasn't overpowering, in spite of an outside temp of 81. I did see one of these fireplaces installed in the model of a very lovely European-styled apartment complex. The mantel was a very dark chocolate cherry, as was the furniture, and the soft furnishings were in brown chennile with raw silk in raspberry and lime checks. It was a chilly day and when the realtor turned on the "flame" from across the room, I felt like I was in a luxurious apartment in Rome. We wound up with a different apartment complex because they have wood-burning fireplaces. We used it twice and then not again because it was so messy getting the wood in and cleaning out the ashes, and because it did not draw properly. In fact anytime a nearby resident uses their fireplace (the apartment complex supplies free, crapy, unseasoned wood or people burn those really cheap paper logs), it fills the little valley we're in and stinks. The wonderful smell of a properly seasoned, hardwood fire is apparently unknown here. I still have my bias for wood-burning fireplaces, but I could be persuaded to go with the halographic model.

I think the answer when it comes to DIY is "know thyself". I've down all of those things Renovator says you should never do yourself and they've all come out as well or better than when I've had similar work down by professionals. I have dear friends who are extremely competent at what they do who should not attempt to change a light bulb on their own. When I look at tasks and am trying to decide whether to do it myself I ask whether it is a matter of care, knowledge, or a motor skill learned through long practice. (and many jobs are a combination of all three). The first two are generally readily addressed, especially with the interweb and youtube videos. Things that take practice are a matter of what commitment are you willing to make, and what opportunity do you have. The one job I won't try myself is plastering, not because I don't think I could learn to do it, but because it takes a lot of physical skill and daily practice over a long period of time to become competent at it. Laying tile floors on the other hand is just a matter of paying a lot of attention to detail, with pretty average skills required. For the vast majority of tasks it's possible for the DIY person who is not trying to make a living at getting a job done in a timely manner to do as good or a better job than the pro who needs to get in and out quickly. It's not done casually though, that leads to disaster.

@Beth H. This wood siding looks phenomenal. I have the best installer that knows all the rules on how the accoya wood needs to handled and installed... stainless screws and nails, there needs to special spacers used wherever the wood touches the substructure. Let me know if you ever need his name. Look at that cut in dryer vent! A word of warning, the only west coast rep for the wood, Laarni Benabese is not trustworthy. If you must go through her get everything in writing from her and ReSawn siding. Not sure if the company itself is as bad as she is. She guaranteed me certain lengths up to 16 feet, in writing, but when the truck arrived... it was nothing but 8 footers! How I wish I would have recorded her calls as she was trying to gaslight me later. I thought about suing at least in small claims court. A recording would have helped but you know... the wood looks great even with seams on wider sections. I will let it go.

The heartwood classic tiles look even better than mine! I would go with those. I have very light ones, but IMO the dark tiles look more like wood.
Don't remember if it came this way but we have three different size planks, which make it a bit more interesting. I posted a picture to another GW member, but to be honest, the picture really doesn't do it justice and wouldn't help you in deciding.

Yes I like it also. But getting my hands on Italian tile (better than most American) may be more difficult than I imagined. I found another nice one. But lowes cant get it even though they carry the same del conca brand.

No matter what you decide, this will not be an inexpensive floor. Friends who liked mine, but then realized the cost, decided on something else.
That said, it will look great, wear well and you will have it for a long time.

I plan on using the Interceramic Colonial in my house. It has good variation between the tiles and has the hand-scraped look. My only complaint it is has a bit more gloss to it than I would like.

I ordered tons of samples unfortunately most came in the size of a index card. I think South Cypress Flooring was one of the only places that sent full size tile.

Thanks itltrot. Do you remember which other samples you received and decided Interceramic Colonial was better? To bad it wasn't available in something longer and narrower. Iv also heard its difficult to keep clean but keep me posted on your results please.
