Drainage problem
Comments (1)Hmm...we have our own water problem here we're trying to figure out, but yours seems a bit more solvable than mine! It seems that maybe to talk to the city could be a solution, especially since you said that when they put sidewalks in, it has made your problem worse. You may be able to have them regrade the area near the sidewalk so that the water flows onto the street and into drainage pipes properly. If not, then back to your plans. If the water is not backing up into your yard (and nearing your foundation), but rather just pooling in the dirt area shown in your picture, I would think about planting some shrubs that are water loving and would soak up puddles quickly. Maybe something like a dappled willow? I'm still learning a lot about plants, but someone else here who is much more knowledgeable could guide you better I'm sure! Or you could do what's been suggested to me--a dry river bed (but mine would be a 15 foot wide one with really substantial rocks, so not a few hour DIY project!)If you filled that are in with small river rock and then did some plantings, it would be pretty and multipurpose as well. Just a few thoughts. I would call the city first though to see what they say....See MoreQuestion about electric fencing for pigs?
Comments (2)2 Wires is what we used back in 50's it work better inside net wire fence the electric wire keep off net wire. Hogs root all time and ground out bottom wire feeder and water need to be in center pin to much rough tumbling around water and feed. The bottom wire helps if barbwire in case current off still has some detainment Sharpe barbs....See MoreQuestion about building a bamboo fence/screen
Comments (3)If you don't want water accumulating in the open tops: 1) seal the top end with ordinary latex exterior caulking compound; or 2) cut all the top ends just above the top node so there is no "cup"; or 3) Drill a 1/4" hole through the bamboo wall just above the top node so that water drains out; or 4) Buy a 1/4" diameter, flexible shaft drill bit that is at least half the length of your bamboo (you can buy these bits up to 6' long), and drill through all the nodes in each bamboo culm so that any water goes through....See MoreFence
Comments (3)I wouldn't use untreated lumber for a fence even if the lumber was given to me for free. My favorite 2 rail fence is split rail cedar, followed by a rough treated pine. This pine uses a true 1"x6" as opposed to 3/4"x5 1/2". Exposed to the elements, even when painted, the untreated lumber won't last long. This will be more aggravated in an area like mine (SE Texas) where we live with high humidity and rain all the time. See ya, Kelly...See MoreUser
