What are you getting reupholstered? I know a good one here...

I know one in Herndon, VA.

I have two old, very heavy wing chairs with feather seat cushions and nail-head trim. I can only fit one in my car at a time but would be able to figure something out if I could get good workmanship at a good price. Around here I am guessing they'd be over $500 each. I am always up for a trip.

The Herndon shop picks up and delivers.

I have used J&C in Gaithersburg on several occasions and have been pleased.

There is a great shop here in Baltimore city -- if you like, I will get name, address and phone number. I know that he delivers just don't know if he also picks up.

Spicer's in Alexandria is terrific. Amazing array of fabric choices and family-run . I have had numerous pieces reupholstered by them. Great prices-flat rates for wing chairs, sofas, etc. excluding your fabric. I can give you phone number if you want. Depends on where in MD you are -not sure how convenient. They also pick up and deliver, but not sure if they go to MD It would be easy fro them if you are across the WIlson Bridge, but not as easy if you are in, say, Bethesda which is why I am not sure. They may be willing in this economy.

Thanks all. I should been more specific - I am west of Baltimore so was hoping for a place in the city or Balto/Carroll/Howard Counties. Gaithersburg is not too far - I will look into that one. I have contacted a place in Rockville with a great website (Reed McCullough) that will p/u and deliver for a fee.

Peginmd - I'd like to hear about the one in Baltimore. Can you give the name here? or email me?

Ah, I will ask a friend of mine to check out Carroll County for you. I don't know of any in Baltimore city or Co. I am in Catonsville and will ask some folks.

In Gaithersburg, there is M&K Upholstery, Inc. I think they also used to be in Va., and received a good review from my neighbor.

I pass by his shop all the time and he is always busy and the work is beautiful. I bought a couple of chairs that he reupholstered about 5 years ago and they are still like new.

I also had two antique (heavy) wing chairs done. If I remember correctly, Mr. Spicer charged $350 + fabric. That was two or three years ago. I told him I have another much larger one with a very high back and larger wings and asked him for a guesstimate on that one. He said it was the same price no matter the size-good for me, bad for someone with a really small one. Anyway, the ones I have are from the teens or twenties. He did a spectacular job.

Peg - I have walked past that place, but never saw anyone around (perhaps it was in the evening). Gotta love that name! I plan to call them tomorrow.

I've used Choi's Upholstery in Rockville for several upholstery and drapery projects. I think their quality is fantastic and their prices are very reasonable. I'm not sure if they'll pick up and deliver in your area -- I'm only a few miles away. Phone number is (301) 251-1580. Good luck.

An update -
I found a place very near me, in Carroll County - an interesting family that has been doing this work for many years in their basement and garage. It will be much cheaper than elsewhere. If anyone wants more info, feel free to email me.

Now the hard part - picking fabric!
