I always have said - a bathroom does not have to be big to be efficient - but, when my "girls" are all home, it becomes the family room at times. My daughter lives two hours away and visits as often as she can with her now one year old baby girl. Then my tween age granddaughter loves to hang out with us when they are visiting. We always seem to gravitate to the bathroom (hair, makeup, bathing baby girl, lots of talking).

Would love that bench.

Thank you all for the nice comments! The bathroom is unexpectedly large and that was its ONLY redeeming feature before we remodeled. The work on this one consisted of the following:

Brick floor (replaced tile)
Paint existing vanity and new countertop
Drywall arch over tub/ shower
Paneled front of tub with same fabrication as fireplace wall
Mini subway tile in vanity alcove to ceiling
Crown molding
Thibaut wallpaper
And accoutrements : mirror (Wisteria, on sale!), Swedish bench circa 1870, custom cushion and shower curtain, botanical prints matted in burlap, runner to match stairs

While it seemed like we were doing a lot of work on it at the time, we didn't have to take the walls down to studs or change the plumbing placement, so in retrospect it looks like a bargain!

It is finished, rtwilliams and I am really pleased with it! We use it almost daily and it's a great place for entertaining. One of the best things we discovered is how easy it is to open champagne....just a step out onto the patio to save the ceiling :-)

My nephew spent a couple of nights down there and reported that the daybeds were comfy. And we have discovered 3D natural history documentaries to watch, and are adding "instruments" to the Beatles band video thingie for our Thanksgiving celebration as there is a dedicated screen for games down there.

How lovely! I really like how you use the space regularly, too. Sounds like so much fun . . .what a treat for your family and friends!

Hee hee about the instruments! We have some in our garage (garage band, haha) that I keep thinking about donating as no one uses them . . .to use them for a party would be a good idea.

That cover stays on the spa all the time. It is a swim spa with something at the left end that creates a current to swim against. We don't keep it super warm unless we are going in to relax and watch a movie outside.

Even when the ambient temperature is lower than the water temp we keep the cover on, as woodland critters find it irresistible as a swimming hole and as far as frogs are concerned it is the lover's lane of west central Georgia. Two words......frog spawn........covers are essential!

Such a nice generous bench. You don't often find that in a bathroom, I am sure it comes in handy for guests.

We bought a very expensive cover from a company in Nevada specifically designed for these long swim spas that was supposed to roll up from one side to the other, and occupy a relatively small footprint at one end when rolled up. It had fiberglass or similar arches built in to it that were supposed to created a mounded cover that would shed water.

Almost immediately the cover's layers began to separate down the middle and reveal that they were not sewn together at all; the main mechanism of heat capture was revealed as a very thin piece of space blanket like material, which would have been ok if all the layers had stayed together; the hoops, instead of standing up horizontally in curves across the width of the pool (8.5') along the length of it (15'), laid down almost immediately and when rained upon collected many heavy gallons of water that had to be broomed off before the cover could be removed; and each time it collected standing water it got more and more waterlogged, until it was a sodden mess and could barely be removed by two adults.

I sent the company pictures of the problems within six months, but they had left off their website the guarantee instructions which were included in the shipping container--- which was so large four men had to open it and get the cover out---- that stated the guarantee was void unless the owner cleaned the vinyl-permeated canvas top monthly with saddle soap of a certain brand! They later did add that to their website, but by then the company had changed names and was selling the covers under a different llc. Obviously I would not have purchased the cover if that requirement had been mentioned on their site at the time!

Our deck was designed to accommodate this particular swim spa and we did not plan for a motorized safety cover because of the way the sides curved. I wish we had tried harder with that manufacturer to devise a custom solution (as my DH suggested), but this failed cover had just come on the market and at $2300 it was a better buy than trying to devise custom runners for the safety cover. When it go to the point that I could not get the cover off myself and use the swimming function for rehab post shoulder surgery, I decided to design a cover myself. The upholsterer in town makes custom boat covers, so we got together several times to work out a design that could be easily removed both to use and to get off the standing water that is inevitable with anything of that length of span.
